The Candle

This scented candle is made by Air Wick and has the scent of Mulled Wine and Cinnamon Apple. I am a huge fan of this type of scent during the festive season as I class this smell as Christmassy and it helps me to really get in the festive mood. This particular candle is new to the Air Wick range and is a Black Edition to the range. Once the candle is lit a soft and tranquil glow illuminated through the wax and gently changes colour. By shining through the design window on the candle holder it creates an elegant rainbow effect. The candle comes in cardboard packaging which states the scent of the product. It has a picture of a red apple and some cinnamon sticks on the packaging on both the top and the front of the packaging. It also states that this candle is the Black Edition and that it changes colour gently. On the back of the packaging it tells you some information about the candle and also states that the candle has a burn time of up to 30 hours. The information on the back is mainly warning information and where/how to use the candle. The candle itself is white in colour and comes in a tall glass jar which is approximately 4 inches high. The glass jar is quite thick and is black with a lovely design on 2 sides of the jar. The design is clear which enables the coloured light to shine through. Even before I had even lit the candle I could smell the lovely scent of light spice and apple. This smelt gorgeous and I was hoping that it would smell as good once it had been lit.

Price/Availability

The candle is available to buy from various Supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Ocado for £5.99. I actually purchased this from my local One Stop store for £2.99 which I thought was a bargain. The candle is also available to purchase in Purple Blackberry Fig and Golden Winter Woods.

Using the Candle

I lit the candle and placed it on a table in my bedroom. I could already see that the colours were coming through the pattern of the jar so I decided to switch the light off to see how good this looked in the dark. The colours ranged from reds, oranges and green to yellows, purples and blues. The colours were really nice and it made the jar look really pretty. Although the lights weren't that bright it gave a calm, ambience feel to the room. The candle had been lit for approximately 15 minutes before I could smell any kind of scent from the candle. The scent from the candle wasn't very strong and definitely wasn't as strong as the previous Glade candle that I purchased. There was a very light spice smell and a slight hint of apple which I could smell when I went near the candle. Although my bedroom isn't big I couldn't smell the candle from the other side of the room which was disappointing. I blew the candle out after having it lit for just over an hour before going to bed. By then the scent of the candle had got slightly stronger but hadn't filled the whole room with the gorgeous spice apple scent. The scent of spice and apples disappeared quite quickly leaving virtually no smell of the candle at all. The scent of the candle didn't really cross to the other side of the room and by the time morning came I couldn't smell the scent at all.

Overall Opinion

I love the idea of the candle lighting up and producing different coloured lights when it's lit and I think this is what makes the candle sell more than anything else. The glass jar that the candle comes in is very pretty and looks really nice, especially when it is lit up. The candle doesn't really produce much light but it does look good when it's in a room with dimmed lights. In terms of the scent of the candle it does smell nice, how-ever it took a good 10-15 minutes after lighting the candle before I could actually smell the fragrance of the candle. Once I could smell the scent of the candle it wasn't very strong and was actually a lot weaker than I expected. The scent from the candle didn't really go far and I could only really smell the scent when getting closer to the candle. In terms of value I think the candle is quite expensive for the lack of scent it gives off. I'm glad I purchased the candle when it was half price as I would have been disappointed if I had paid £5.99 for this candle. I think there is better scented candles out there than this one and one's which give off a stronger smell and is longer lasting. Although the lights in the candle were very nice I don't think I would buy this product again.
