This review is for the "New Airwick Comforting Vanilla Dream" Candle
You can always tell when its Autumn in supermarkets as every year along side your normal air freshners and fabric sprays the scented candles make an appearance. Looking at the selection in Tesco the other day this year aswell as the normal christmassy mulled wine and glistening snow candles Airwick have brought out an old favourite ready to make our homes smell that much better - "Vanilla Dream"
Housed in a cutaway cardboard container the opaque glass candle sits proudly, the packaging explains that the candle is made with essential oils and boasts 30-40 hours of fragrance. Easily measuring 5-6 inches in height the container the candle sits in is made of a decent thickness glass so reassures you it wont split or crack once you have lit the candle itself.
You only have to pick the box up to be met with the fresh smell of Vanilla, it has a very sweet aroma, not at all subtle like other scented candles; You know even before you light it that it is going to do exactly what it says it will do.
The scent itself is described by Airwick as being "A comforting frangrance of luxurious vanilla combined with silky smooth cream" and to me thats exactly what it does smell like. We have one of these candles lit in our living room on an evening and it really does fill the room with scent, if you leave the room and go back in you notice it straight away. Although the fragrance is strong it is not overpoweringly so and is comforting on a cold, dark Autumnal night.
The only downside to this product in my opinion is the price. At £5.00 per candle from Tesco it does seem an extravagant purchase, weighing up the cost versus the amount of time the candle lasts (30-40 hours) makes it more of a luxury item than just having a cheaper brand alternative or simple air freshner.
They say you get what you pay for, and in this products case thats probably true, to be honest I only bought this item as it was on special offer with 1 candle costing £5.00 but 2 costing £6.00, obviously making them a more wallet-friendly £3.00 each.
I cant say even though it is probably one of the best fragranced candle I have ever bought (and I have bought quite a few over the years!) that I would buy it again unless of course it was on offer. But for those of you on a higher budget that like these then you would have to look very hard to beat this product in terms of fragrance.
A 3/5 rating for me and thats only down to the price. If it was cheaper then it would get 5/5
Summary: Thanks for reading

- 27/10/09 I love candles around the house, but because it isn't really safe with my dogs around, I tend to only light one if there is a powercut:-( |
