Whenever Christmas is making it's way round I always want the house to smell warm and inviting. I always choose a scent with cinnamon or spices to give the house the identifiable Christmas scent.
I use to buy spiced apple Airwick original candles and as they are in a ball shaped glass, the sides wouldn't burn away and it would create a well in the middle. I found these square glassed candles in Tesco last year and bought 3 of them for future Christmas's.
The Ribbons Collection is a lovely range from the Air wick brand. The glass surrounding the candle is lovely and thick unlike the ball shaped candles from Glade. It has a pattern of layers in the glass of cream and red stripes of colour. The layers are to show to flavours of spiced mulled wine and cinnamon apple. In the shop I wanted to check the scent of it would be to my liking and the box had the top of box open so you could smell the candle before purchase. The scent was strong and you can really smell the warmth and Christmas scent from the cinnamon and spices. I couldn't much pick out the mulled wine scent from it but then mulled wine is full of spices so the wine smell isn't very easy to pick out.
Once I got them home, I decided to just light one candle in the living room to test how strong the scent was when burning in one room. I didn't notice the smell until around 5 minutes of it being lit. I was sat at the other end of the room to the burning candle and could smell the warmth and spices hit me. The smell when it's burning is lovely and soft and not too overpowering in the room. I didn't want it to be too strong in the house or it would start to get quite irritating.
The candles burn much better than the ball shaped candles from Glade who also do this scent. They do form a well light most candles do, but this candle burns much more evenly and the glass is very thick at the bottom so you don't need a plate underneath.
I really enjoy burning these candles at Christmas time. I don't think this particular scent is suitable for any other time of the year other than Winter as the smell is definitely a Winter warming fragrance. The other benefit is that the candle looks lovely. The glass holder is elegant and looks great lit up when the candle is burning. The ribbon stripes of colour also give the candle a great look and I think with other Christmas ornaments it really feels like a winter wonderland in my own home.
I purchased these in October last year at £2.50 each. I did see them at £1.50 each after Christmas so I picked up two more for other rooms in the house. I bought them in Tesco but have seen them in other supermarkets and in Wilkinsons Stores.
I give this candle 5/5 for scent and for it's long lasting fragrance.
Thanks for Reading my Review
As you may have realised from some of my previous reviews I love scented candles I can never resist them. I do not however buy them from supermarkets as they cost way to much in there instead I stick to buying them from Home Bargains why pay £5.99 when I can the same for £1.69!? The thing with buying them from there though is I have to wait until fragrances I like are on the shelf as they don't always have the same ones in. I usually go for spiced apple but this Mulled Wine and Crackling fire one smelled great on the shelf so I gave it ago.
Th box tells me the candle is 'A rich blend of cinnamon and nutmeg finished with sensual amber and warm woods'. I think this is a good description of the fragrance the cinnamon is paricularly strong which is great for me I am a big fan of smells that remind of Christmas like this one. Smelling the candle before burning I thought it smelt like anised balls I used to get from the sweet shop after school all those years ago and the person on the check out also had a sniff whilst scanning and said the same thing lol.
The candle comes in a solid square glass container and the wax is layered white and a red orange colour inside which you can through the glass. The candle is said to have a 30 hour burning time and from my previous experience with Air Wick candles I would say that that statement is probably accurate they do tend to have a good life.
Burning the candle it takes around 5 minutes befoe you can begin to smell the cinnamon in the air and you don't need to leave and re enter the room either to get the full effect. The fragrance is plesant and makes my home smell cozy and welcoming it is not overpowering and does not make me sneeze as some spray air freshners can do.
I recommend this candle for all those christmas smell addicts like me 5 stars from me.
When I first smelled the Air wick Scent Ribbon I was in love! I purchased all 8 of them on the rack because I had good coupons. What could go wrong, I thought? The first candle that I burnt had about an 1/8 of wax left in the bottom of the glass. So I just put the leftover candle on the candle burner. I hated to waste that much wax. To my dismay they all burnt like that, all 8 of them. Each candle had anywhere from an eight to a quarter of wax in the bottom of them. I thought that it was a little ridiculous to have that much wax left in a candle. I decided to contact their customer service department, in which they apologized and asked if I could send in the candles for review. So I purchased 8 crappy candles, totally dissatisfied customer, and they want me to waste more of money and time to send them back?!? Are you kidding me? So I wrote back and told them that I couldn't believe that the quality of their candles and how they handle customer complaints. She wrote back and told me she would send me a pre-paid sticker to send them back and they were sending me "valuable coupons" towards my next purchase of any of their products (Reckitt Benckiser). I got the coupons in the mail and it was 2 $3 coupons, and a $1 coupon. Geez thanks, how thoughtful. I again wrote back explaining that I spent 8 times that amount and that is what I am offered. I asked for a supervisor to call me or give me the number to call her/him. She wrote me back and again apologized for my disappointment in their product and she forwarded the information to the correct department, and should I have any other questions to contact her via phone or email... I sent them pictures; I didn't pack them up and send them. If their customer service sucks that much, I am sure they would go straight to the trash anyway. Terrible candles, terrible customer service. Save your money! Bottom line, this company needs to stick to their cleaning products. If you would like to see pictures of them just let me know and I will send them to you. I hope this review was helpful.
Last Christmas I read loads of reviews on a Christmas candle and had it on my shopping list for my big Christmas shop sadly when it came time to purchase it was out of stock so this year when I noticed Christmas candles I wasn't going to be waiting till Christmas to buy one. Actually I smelled my heart's desire candle and was disappointed in the smell so instead smelled the Airwick ribbon scents candle which was on offer at £2.99 and it happily made its way into my shopping trolley.
The candle itself it in a square glass holder and filled with a cream coloured candle with red stripes through the centre presumably meant to look like ribbons. The glass does seem quite thick but have previously dropped candles in glass containers and they do shatter into a million pieces. The Candle is boxed in cardboard but with an opening so you can smell the aroma prior to purchase. I opened mine and left it on the fire for a few weeks but the aroma whilst can be smelt close up did not permeate into the lounge. It did have a look though of a more expensive candle.
The aromas is called mulled wine and crackling fire which is a idealistic image of Christmas and the smell does remind me of mulled wine although not especially and open fire. It is described as a rich blend of cinnamon and nutmeg and amber and warm woods and although it does state made with essential oils it doesn't mention which ones. The cinnamon is most noticeable o me when burning.
The Flame is a small standard candle which doesn't really give enough light to light up a whole room but does give a warm glow.
The candle comes with a basic list of warnings all of which really are commons sense such as do not leave unattended, near objects that can burn or move when candle is lit. Some of the more obscure ones are not for ingestion and to seek immediate medical advice if this does happen.
The candle does contain Alpha -Methyl cinamal, benzyl benzoate, eugeol and cinnamal. The box does advise this can cause and allergic reaction. I haven't experienced any noticeable effect either by myself or my son and my son suffers from eczema so is susceptible to allergic reactions.
I do find that after about 30 minutes I need to blow the candle out due to the strength of the aroma. I do find when I light this candles it really find that it does enhance the Christmas ambience around out house and the smell of the candle does linger long after it has been extinguished.
The box states that this candle will burn for up to 30 hours. I have been using mine for a week and it has only reduced in depth a small amount so will see my long past Christmas.
I do recommend that you look out for this one to fill your house with the smell of Christmas however I would look around for offers. I did recently see them on offer at Wilkinson's for £2.49 and are currently £6 at Tesco's so there can be a huge variation in price.
I am very happy with my Christmas candle particularly for the price I paid so am wishing you have a happy festive season too.
