Advantages: Smells great, can be refilled, can last longer than sprays.

Disadvantages: Initial outlay for plug a little expensive but is worth it.

I like to use air fresheners and scented candles to bring fragrance to my rooms in my home, but find that sprays and gels etc just don’t give that required long lasting fragrance for me. Candles are good but you can’t leave one on when you go out (unless you want to run the risk of coming back to no home at all) therefore my favourite type of air freshener has to be the plug in type ones that I can leave plugged in, to release fragrance continuously!

Such a plug in is the Ambi Pur 3volution (yes it is a 3) This is an innovative design, quite unlike any other, in that you aren’t stuck with one fragrance (which you tend to not notice after a while) but instead have 3 fragrances in one!

Let me explain…..

The plug unit itself is no more than 3” wide and 4” high and sits about 2” deep when you plug it in, so isn’t too intrusive. I usually plug mine in the wall behind my phone table in the hall where it can’t be seen but as it is a white unit then it won’t look too out of place in a hallway or living area.
The unit has a sliding button on the side where you can choose from 3 settings, minimum to maximum (the fragrances claim to last up to 90 days on the minimum setting) I usually set mine to minimum and use it daily and whilst I haven’t exactly counted how many days it lasted it’s certainly been at least 6weeks so far since I bought it and it’s just beginning to run out now. (not quite the 90 days but not bad considering I can get through a bottle of air freshener a week) I’ve also had it on maximum setting occasionally to try banish the bad smells which my son emits from his body on a regular occasion the little rotter! (shame I can’t plug one of these into his bum lol)

The unit works by using another little unit of 3 bottles of perfumed fragrances, these all have screw on lids which have to be removed to fit into the plug unit, (save these for when you want to change fragrances) It is simple to use the unit, simply push the fragrance trio up through the bottom of the plug unit and make sure it is pushed in properly, don’t worry you can easily tell if it is. Once it is in, plug it in and watch the red light come on in the unit, there are 3 spaces at the top of the unit for each of the fragrances to escape from and the red light will appear at the top of whichever fragrance is working at the time. (The fragrances change by themselves every 45mins) There are also 3 spaces at the bottom of the unit so you can easily see when you will need to refill the unit.

The actual perfume is released by the plug in unit slightly heating up (not enough to burn fingers or anything) the wick that is inside each bottle of fragrance and the wick sucks it up, it doesn't shoot out bursts of perfume, which is probably what makes it last longer too.

You can buy refills from any good supermarket or chemist, I usually get mine from Semi-Chem or Tesco (depending on offers) At the moment Tesco have the unit complete with a trio of fragrances for only £4.68 which is about the same in Morrison’s but over £2 cheaper than Asda and Sainsbury’s. Semi-Chem are around same price too. The refills are available from Tesco just now for £3 each which is quite good as I’ve seen them for about £3.50 in Semi-Chem recently too, and are around £4+ from other supermarkets.

The refills are available in different packages and are colour coded so you can remember which you have used.

Heavenly Flowers (Pale Pink)
Fresh New Day (Pale Green)
Winter Collection (Cream)
Seaside Breezes (Blue)
Spring Flowers (Cerise Pink)
Oriental Dreams (Orange)
Spring Gardens (Darker Green)

I have already tried 3 of the packs and love them all and it’s so easy to change them that you can swap over when you get a bit fed up with one and then go back to it later.
The one I have at the moment is the Sea Breezes which as the name suggests are marine like aromas, the packaging tells me that the three fragrances are inspired by the fresh sea air, lapping waves and soft sand. To be honest the 3 fragrances in this one aren’t too dissimilar from each other but they are lovely and fresh and I have had people comment on how lovely my home smells. The others I’ve got are the Spring Flowers (which is the one which is just about finished) and was lovely and floral as you would expect…but my favourite so far is the Oriental Dreams which is a blend of exotic floral and musky perfumes. I intend to try them all eventually.

The recommended time to use these are for about 12hrs per day and if you stuck to using them for this time you may see the 90days perhaps, I go through phases of forgetting to turn mine off so can’t comment exactly how long mines lasts, also I change from minimum setting to maximum occasionally too. I mentioned before my first one lasted me about 6-7 weeks, which for an initial outlay of just under a fiver was a good buy in my books as the fragrance is definitely noticeable, even more so if you leave the room and then come back to it again.

One thing to note is that these should only be used stood upright in a wall plug and not in an extension, as the liquid perfume may spill out. You should also avoid getting any on your skin as it may cause irritation to sensitive skin. All the usual warnings are there too, i.e. don’t drink, keep out of reach of children etc.

One thing that surprised me that I hadn’t noticed until I began to check out the packaging for the sake of this review was that the company who make this and all other Ambi-pur products is none other than Sara Lee! Yes the cake and gateaux queen! Quite a far cry from double choc gateau hmmm? (although I bet I would gain weight from a chocolate smelling air freshener haha)

Anyway I hope you have enjoyed reading this, I am sitting here surrounded at the moment by the soft lapping of waves on the shore and all that comes with it, (Oh how I wish I was at the beach instead of sitting in Scotland amidst the summer showers lol)

Thanks for taking the time to read
