Advantages: It does cover all odour, very much so.
Disadvantages: It can be too over powering, and become a fume itself. Setting up can be messy.
On the whole, this is a good product, it does what it says on the box, it is very important however, that you like (in fact, LOVE,) the fragrance, as it is very very strong.
I bought this to freshen up my flat, its not a big flat, its got 4 rooms and is in London, and sits on top of another flat where a guy likes to smoke, chimney style directly below my open window (regardless of whichever of 6 I choose to open.)
Smoking itself actually makes me feel nauseous, its probably down to the memories of long car journeys which my now step father used to drive, play loud punk/Goth music from the early 1980s (despite it being 1995) and also smoked through out hours of journey, its the bad association... sorry, I am going off the point! But safe as to say, I do not like my flat smelling of smoke, I would rather not spend the evening on milk of magnesia and camping out in my bathroom.
I chose this pink Ambi Pure (as seen in pictures) because I liked the scratch and smell scent that was on the outside of the box, I didn't adore it, but it smelt quite pretty, I like pretty things. It was £4.99 on special offer at Tesco at the time, applicator included, they do tend to always be on offer somewhere so shop around, normally they cost £8ish.
The difference with this and other plug in fragrances is that there are 3 scents altogether, they all complement each other and are meant to blend in well together, a good gimmik, there are others on the market, but as far as I am aware, this one came first.
You simply follow the instructions to set up, plug in, turn on and every 20 or so minutes, the plug in switches from one scent to another. It chooses them at random, so never a dull moment.
The idea of this is that your nose gets used to the same scent being on all the time, but if they are swapping around a lot, you don't get used to it at stop smelling it, you continually get a fresh reminder every time the plug in switches.
To put in, you need to unscrew the little perfume stoppers- careful not to touch the little sponges at the edge of the little bottles, the instructions don't say this, but once you touch them, not even swimming chlorine will get it fully off your finger tips, ever seen the film Labyrinth and the 'bog of eternal stench?' I will say no more.
At home I immediately plugged it in full throttle (there are 3 different intervals you can have it on depending on how much scent you want, mild, medium, strong). I left it for 5 minutes to do its thing and start up, and had almost forgotten about it, until this over powering wave of perfume hits me. I am sitting eating my dinner, 2 rooms away. OK, it was then I decided I really didn't like this enough, not enough to have it scent my entire flat, all 4 rooms and hallway within 5 minutes.
I went to turn down the plug in, not even on level 1, it had done enough, I was satisfied it worked and left it off.
Whenever I go out, I leave this on. When I come back, the scent is very strong. No fag smoke at all. It defiantly works.
If you can, try to sit through the 3 different perfumes, they change, you may find you like one more then the other, then, like me, you can mess around with the plug, it chooses its first scent at random, keep flicking, your favourite one will come on, eventually. Keep an eye on it, after about 25 minutes, it swaps over to a different scent. Then you flick around with the switch again...
I think this is a good product overall, it does work- I literally cannot smell anything else but the scent, even when its on the lowest setting. It covers up tobacco smoke, weed, and anything else your trying to hide (e.g. the leather on the new boots you really shouldn't have bought). But the choice of scent is very important, if you choose the wrong one, you wont want to use it again.
Overall the choice of scents is quite good, from the frilly floral like this one, to the clean scents of cotton, there is quite a decent range, although I do think they (Ambi Pure) could do with updating them more then taking away and adding 2 scents a 6 month time period.
Summary: Little and often.
