Advantages: Makes house smell great, easy to use, widely available

Disadvantages: Holder is expensive, liquid can ruin furniture, carpets etc

I have recently (on 1st April) quit smoking and have looked into many way of encouraging myself to stay quit. One of these ways is to remind myself of how nice the house smells without all the stale smoke clinging to the furniture. I use Ambi-Pur plug in air fresheners which makes the house smell lovely and really reminds me how nice the house smells without the smoke, and with the help of this product.

About Ambi Pur Plug In
These room fragrances work using the "plug-in" method. First you need to buy the plug-in holder and then you can choose which of their fragrances you wish to 'plug in' to the holder. The Ambi Pur holder is approximately 4 inches in height and 1.5 inches in width and depth.
The plug-in holder has a control release mechanism that allows you to set the level of air freshener that is released into the room. It goes on a scale of 1 to 5 and works really well. Personally I tend to keep the level at either 1 or 2 as this releases enough fragrance for it to be noticeable but not too much that it becomes overpowering.
The plug in bottle is see through which is very useful as it allows you to see how much liquid is left.

Packaging
The plug in re-fills come in a cardboard box which are various colours depending on which range you buy. I tend to buy the Innocence fragrance and this comes in a lilac box which has Ambi Pur written across the front. It also has the fragrance name written across the front, along with a picture of which holder this re-fill can be used for (as there are various holders on the market)
On the back they have a small amount of info about the fragrance you have selected along with advertisements for other products in this range.
Innocence is described as a light fragrance inspired by fresh linen. Perfect for living rooms and bedrooms.

Price
The plug in holder itself is quite expensive for what it is, but once you have bought one, it will last you for a long while so I suppose it is worth the money really. The holder will set you back £6.98 (these prices are what they cost at Tesco). Each re-fill after that will then cost you £3.48.

Range
As these 'plug in's' have now been around for quite a while, they is actually quite a large range of fragrances to choose from. As well as having various fragrances, they also have different ranges such as the Anti Tobacco range, a range designed to rid your home of Pet smells, 3volution and a couple of others.
They have three main categories that each fragrance comes under. For example Warm and Rich Fragrances are ones such as Harmony, Elegance and Aromatic Wood, Soft and Calm Fragrances are ones such as Innocence, Dream Away and Soft Linen and then Fresh and Vibrant Fragrances are ones such as Natural Stone, April and Zoom.
They also produce limited edition fragrances at Christmas etc, for example, this year at Christmas they produced the fragrance Mulled Wine which was lovely and I wish I had bought more of them now!
Ambi Pur also do the same fresheners for cars so be very careful when buying a new refill as I have bought one for a car before by mistake as they look so similar.

Do They Actually Work?
Yes, these plug in's certainly work. My living room door is shut at night time to make sure my dogs do not decide to sleep on the sofa and firs thing in the morning when I open the door, I am greeted by the lovely smell of the plug in. As I mentioned, I tend to keep the level at 1 - 2 and this provides a nice pleasant odour throughout the whole of the room. A higher setting than this can lead to a very overpowering smell which to be honest can be quite unpleasant because it is just so strong.

How Long Do They Last?
On the packaging it states that each re-fill holds 20ml and will last 75 days and this is a fairly realistic estimation. I have a plug in air freshener in my front room and also in my bedroom. I have to admit that the one in my front room always seems to last longer than the one on my bedroom. I have a feeling that this is because the one in my bedroom is positioned near to the door so more fragrance is used by the fact that the door is always opening and closing whereas the one in my living room is tucked away under a shelf.
On average though, you can expect a 20ml refill to last around 2 months which isn't bad considering the re-fill costs £3.48.

Summary
I would definitely recommend this product. It has certainly been a great incentive for me in giving up smoking as it allows me to realise how nice the house can smell. I did use this product while I still smoked in the house and although you could smell that, I could still smell the underlying hint of stale smoke (maybe I should have used the Anti-Tobacco ones!).
Although initially they seem quite expensive with the holder costing nearly £7, these holders last for ages. I have one that I have had for over 2 years and it still works perfectly.
The one thing you do need to be careful of is that you keep an eye on hw much liquid is left as if the freshener runs out, the holder can get warm and the nib of it dries out and may not be able to be used again - meaning you will have to buy another holder. T is quite easy to keep an eye on how much liquid you have left though as they refill is made from glass and you can easily see how much liquid you have left.
One more thing, be very careful with the plug in. For example, sometimes I take the plug in out for a while to plug in something else i.e., the hoover and you need to be very careful where you place the plug in. It doesn't balance very well and if it falls over then it will stain carpets, furniture etc so make sure you are careful.

Summary: A great way of ensuring your house smells lovely all day long

Great review. I usually find these in my local Pricewise shop at £1-99 or even 99p including the holder but its always the Tobacco one. Handy still though for the price. Charity shops still have the holders from time to time.
