Advantages: Soft, Strong, Long
Disadvantages: A little expensive
I am a firm believer in the phrase 'you get what you pay for'. This definitely applies to toilet rolls. After a few rather dodgy purchases when I first lived by myself I decided that it was far better to fork out a little bit more money to buy Andrex rather than put up with other tissue that was hard, fell apart, or needed half a roll to do a decent job! I only buy white Andrex as I don?t think it does quite as much harm to the environment as the dyed ones, although that is probably a load of tosh and the bleach does more harm I suspect! Andrex comes in a variety of colours such as pink, lemon and blue but I find the white suits us best as we have 3 loos (our house isn?t that posh though) all decorated in different colours, so white fits them all!! I find it very soft to use on those delicate areas that need tender loving care, and its absorbency is excellent. Also, it doesn't disintegrate when you need it to be that little bit stronger - if you know what I mean. You don?t need to use half a roll either to achieve the desired cleanliness. It is also used for blowing noses in my house during the cold season (far cheaper than boxes of tissues), although it can look rather odd having loo rolls strategically placed around the house. It stands up extremely well to the various strengths and end results of blows, again without falling apart. The squares are a decent size so two at a time usually gives plenty of wiping/blowing power!! Also, I find that it is soft enough be used to remove makeup when you've run out of cotton wool. The size of the rolls is very good - they only just fit into my holders and the sheets are a good size too. Each roll is full of 2-ply tissue with an average of 241 sheets per roll. Each sheet is on average 124x110mm with an average total area of 13.09m sq. The average length of each roll is 29.76meters - lots of bottom and nose wiping potential there then! The rolls come wrapped in plastic (this
used to be paper which maybe preferable!) with pictures of the rather cute Andrex puppy on! Depending on the colour of roll you buy the wrapping colour changes Pink for pink etc. White rolls come in a mainly light blue package (why?). The rolls can be bought in packs of 2, 4 or 9. A 9 pack costs around £3.99. The 2 packs can be rather expensive so I tend to buy the 9 pack. Look out for special offers because quite often it can be cheaper to buy two 4 packs than one 9 pack. Yes I know 2x4 isn?t 9 but taking that into account, the offers on the 4 packs are usually cheaper. Also sometimes the 9 packs have a 12 for the price of 9 offer. These offers brings the price a lot nearer their competitors, but to be honest I think Andrex is the best toilet tissue on the market in terms of quality, and it isn't vastly more expensive than the rest. I refer you to my opening statement - 'you get what you pay for'.

- 14/03/04 I never buy white toilet rolls out of principle - if I'm buying an expensive brand I want a bit of colour too whether it matches the decor or not, lol. I agree though, Andrex rules, and I'm sure we still have a couple of those little cute little (toy) puppies running about upstairs somewhere.....! Great review. |

- 10/03/04 The puppies are cute, but I don't know about the Andrex - it's just too expensive for loo roll, I reckon! |
