Advantages: Stopped my boyfriends flare-ups

Disadvantages: Not available in all supermarkets

I'm not fussy about washing powder - as far as I'm concerned, if it gets my clothes clean, it's doing its job . However, last year I got a new boyfriend, who suffers from Excema . He lives some way away, so I only see him about one week a month, but we noticed that every time he came to my house, he'd have a flare up, which made things a little uncomfortable for him .

After a few such visits, with a flare up on each,we noticed he's get it worst on a particular side of his body, the side he lay on , so we figured it was something to do with the bed, and came to the conclusion that it may be either the washing powder, or dust mites .

I decided to first try switching washing powders, and on a visit to the co-op (not somewhere I normally shop, but I went up with my dad from his house) I saw these Simply Sensitive Non-Bio tablets . Since they were on offer at 1.50 a tub at the time, I decided to give these a try .

I washed all my bedlinen, even the clean stuff in this a few days before his next visit . For good measure, I also washed all the towels in this too , as well as any ordinary washing that accumulated.

They come in packs of 30 tablets, each witha dissolvable plastic wrapping, that you shove into the drum with all your washing ( the pack recommends 1 tab for a half load, 2 tabs for a full load- however, I found one tub on a full load worked just fine).

They leave clothes very clean, with a very slight fragrance - the best way to describe it would be to say that the clothes smelt very fresh after using this . I always wash on a cool 30 degree wash, and was impressed by the performance of these tablets , which even managed to get out pen marks from my daughters clothing .

My boyfriend came to visit , and we waited . And waited. And waited some more . After a ten day visit, there was no skin reaction at all , so I definately think this has helped for his eczema . I've been using it since, and I'm still impressed with the performance .

The packaging is a nice resealable (and recyclable) tub which is also useful for storing bits and bobs like pegs etc in .

The only downside to these washing tablets is that so far, my regular supermarket (Asda) does not seem to stock these, so I do end up making a special trip up to the co-op to purchase these, which cost 2.99 per tub . However, as these work so well, I don't mind the trip .

Overall, I'd definitely recommend giving these a try if you have sensitive skin, as they worked on my boyfriend, preventing him from having any more flare ups . Of course, your washing powder may not be causing any skin problems you may have, but its one of the cheaper things you can change to try and get to the route of the problem .

A great product - easy and convenient to use, packaged in recyclable material, and really quite excellent value for money.

Summary: Definately recommended
