Advantages: Great cleaning even on low temeratures
Disadvantages: The smell isn't as nice as other brands
After seeing all the hype on the television adverts and hearing that Ariel excel gel is the way forward, I decided to give up my bold infusions for just 1 time and give it a go. How could I not try it considering friends and family had and they were adamant they had been converted from their usual favourite brands to this. I decided to try the excel gel with febreze effect as smell is important to me. I like to smell the scent of the washing in my home as it dries as well as keeping a lovely clean scent when the clothes are worn.
The description:
The bottle is a funny shape and is almost circular from the front. The bottle is white and its label advises of all the requirements to use the detergent correctly to get the best results. Fixed on the top of the bottle is a removable dosing device. Once the device has been removed you are able to fill it up with the excel gel and put it straight into the drum of the washing machine. After the wash is completed the device can be attached back on to the top of the bottle to ensure it is not lost for the next use.
At the side of the bottle there is a clear strip. This ensures you to see how much detergent is left. I really like this idea as I have found myself that sometimes when I think there is a lot of detergent left. There isn't. This means you can keep track of when another bottle is needed.
The product:
One of the first things I noticed about the gel was that it is was very thick; this is due to it being 2 times concentrated. I filled the device up as advised and popped it into the machine to do its magic. The smell of the detergent is fresh. I wouldnt say it was nicely scented as I had hoped since it was the febreze variety. While my washing was on I decided to have quick read of the back and found out that people with sensitive or damaged skin should avoid prolonged contact with the product. I realised by this that I was going to stick to fairy to wash my daughter's clothes. The product also advises that it is not acceptable to be used on wool or silk items. The bottle also advises that the gel is outstanding even at low temperature. It sounded good so far so lets see the results.
The results:
When the wash had finished I noticed that the clothes had a much more pleasant smell than the detergent alone. I hung the clothes on the radiators and I was very surprised to see that the fresh scent got stronger as the clothes were drying. I was very impressed with the washing quality too. I washed the clothes on 30 temp and they were spotless. I do find it hard sometimes to get make-up stains from my clothes especially the white garments but these were completely gone. The whites looked so bright and the towels looked as new.
The price:
Due to this detergent being new I picked it up as a special price of 2.00. I have had this for a good while now and it is still going strong. The price to buy usually is approximately £4.00. I would definitely buy this again as I was very impressed with it and considering It is concentrated it lasts ages too.
I would definitely recommend this product although I don't like the smell as much as the bold infusions it works great and I cant fault it.
Summary: Great detergent at a low price

- 01/04/09 I too have been wondering - the bold claims that they can really work wonders at 30 degrees have me dumfounded. I struggle to get the regular Ariel to was acceptably at anything less than about 60! |
