Advantages: none that I can justify
Disadvantages: expensive
I hate housework. I don't just mean that I don't like it very much, I mean I really, really hate it. I have to psych myself up into doing it, and then I resent every single second that it entails. So anything that comes on the market that just might make my housework time a little bit less, no matter how much I have to pay through the nose for it, I will try. Washing clothes is neither difficult nor labour intensive. It is a simple matter of shoving your clothes in and closing the door, filling your tray with powder and fabric conditioner, turning a knob or two and leaving it to it. Nevertheless, I loathe doing it. I particularly hate messing about with washing powder or liquid. Powder is messy - I always spill some when filling the tray - and the machine only ever uses two thirds of it, leaving the rest a mushy mess for me to clean up. and liquid - which again I always spill - needs measuring. Enter Ariel Liquitabs to avoid such arduous and stressful wastes of time. Ariel Liquitabs are, as their name suggests, Ariel washing liquid inside a little sealed plastic pillow. They are about 3 inches by 2 inches, and the liquid inside is green. They're almost cute. They come in a transparent box of either 10 or 20 tablets. Each little pillow holds 50 ml of washing liquid. You simply pop one (or two, if you live in a hard water area or your clothes are really minging) into your machine on top of your dirty clothes and switch on. As the water heats up, the plastic pillow melts and releases the liquid to clean your clothes. The Liquitabs come in two versions - one standard one and one for coloured clothes. I use both and both produce excellent results, though I have to say no better than traditional Ariel liquid or powder. Clothes come out of the machine very clean and smelling fresh and slightly flowery, or smelling of whatever fabric conditioner you've used with them. Th
e downside is that they're not cheap, selling at around £3 for a box of 10, which does between 5 and 10 washes depending on your water and your dirt. Overall they're handy little devils that do their job well and I wouldn't be without them. However, they are expensive and completely unnecessary, and probably waste the earth's resources with their packaging. Each to his own?

- 04/12/02 Anything that makes housework easier is great in my book, too! Unfortunately, although I think liquitabs are great they bring my husband out in a rash, so I can't use them (unless he's annoyed me and I want to get revenge, tee hee!) |
