“ Brand: Asda / Type: Washing Gel / Category: Laundry „
Like most people I have been trying to save some money on items which are a little cheaper to buy just to try and cut down on essential items whenever possible. I like to also try products I haven't tried before because it is a very good way of testing them to see if they are suitable or not. I hadn't bought this laundry gel before so decided I would give it a go.
The gel comes inside plastic bottle which has a removable cap which can also be used as a measuring cap. I like the cap because I can simple just then pour the gel from the bottle into the cap and then simply place it inside my machine with my fabrics, I sometimes like to transfer it to my machine drawer compartment but I normally use the cap inside my machine.
It doesn't drip from the bottle while pouring it because the gel is quite a rich, thick consistency and not runny. It is an orange colour and has a really nice fragrance to it. It has a really nice fruity smell and quite a sweet scent to it and I can slightly detect a floral fragrance too. I really like the smell of this gel and it does smell quite amazing since it is a shops own brand.
This gel is a 2 in 1 and also contains a fabric conditioner. When I first used it, I didn't use a conditioner because I wanted to see how it worked without adding a conditioner. I found my fabrics did feel nice and soft but not quite as soft as when I use a conditioner. So after a couple of times of testing it, I did decide to use a conditioner to see the comparison. I do think adding the conditioner did help soften the fabrics far better but I then decided to use the gel without the extra conditioner for fabrics which I wasn't too bothered about if they were soft or not, such as tea towels and cushion covers. But when I washed my towels, bedding and clothing I did always just add a tiny amount of conditioner to the wash.
This gel however does clean fabrics extremely well, it removes most stubborn dirt and food from fabrics. It cleans to a standard I expect from a shops own brand and it is almost as good as a branded kind in my opinion. The only difference I can see with this gel compared to a branded one is that it doesn't remove ground in dirt so well and doesn't remove all stains so well as a branded kind. But it does clean well enough on a lower setting which is good because I generally always was my fabrics on a lower setting of 30 degrees.
The fragrance does have staying power on the fabrics, I can detect the scent when I take them from my washing machine and also once they have dried and I take them from my wardrobe or drawers, I can still detect the fragrance on my fabrics.
Some people don't like to use a fabric conditioner and I would say that if you are one of these people who like to just wash fabrics and not use a conditioner, this gel would be a perfect one to buy. If you are also someone who isn't particularly bothered about your fabrics feeling super soft, then this one would be ideal for you in my opinion.
It is very affordable to buy and cost just £3 for a 840ml bottle, a super price for this amount of gel in the bottle. It is designed to wash up to 28 wash loads and for this amount of washes I think it is super value for money and well worth the price.
Would be an ideal one to buy if you are wanting to drop a brand and still have nicely washed fabrics. It would save you some money buying this gel and ideal if you have a large family and use a lot of gel.
I have found this gel hasn't irritated my sensitive skin or caused any rashes etc, my grandchildren haven't had any irritations too, so it is a good one for more delicate skins.
I highly do recommend this gel, it is a good buy and works very well for cleaning fabrics in my opinion and I will buy it again in the future.
Also appears on Ciao under my username pinky50.
I give it 4 stars. I am dropping a star only because I don't think it softens all fabrics so well for my expectations from a shops own brand of laundry gel.
Thank you for reading my review and I hope it has been of some help.
Not so mighty ... but cheap!
I am a big fan of Persil Small and Mighty washing liquids, but I tend to only buy this when it's on offer as it is a bit on the pricey side when at full price. But when I did my recent online shop at Asda, this one caught my eye as it is much more competitively priced than the big brand names. So I thought there was no harm in giving it a whirl...
This washing liquid costs £3 for 840ml which is 28 washes. According to the Asda website, this liquid offers brilliant cleaning performance from 15°c and has been "specially formulated with Acti-Stain Technology which penetrates deep into fibres and releases dried in stains".
Fill it up
This comes in a big white bottle with an orange lid - the lid also doubles up as a receptacle for the liquid - you simply squeeze the liquid into the lid and pop it into the washing machine with your clothes. Inside the lid are different measures you can decide exactly how much liquid you need depending on how soiled your clothes are. I tend to fill it up most of the way before popping it in my machine.
The liquid is very thick in consistency and I was a bit disappointed by the smell of the liquid - it isn't as nice as it sounded to me or as strong and I wondered if it would make my clothes smell as nice as my usual liquids...
Clean, soft .... but no smell!
After washing, I found that my clothes were definitely clean and I also noticed how soft they felt, even though I hadn't used fabric conditioner. Even quite heavily stained items seemed to be perfectly clean (I tend to wash at 30 or 40 degrees depending on how dirty the clothes are). However the one thing I did notice was that, as I had expected the clothes didn't smell as lovely and fresh as they do with the Persil liquid I use the smell of which usually hits me as soon as I open my washing machine. The clothes smelt clean but there was no strong or fresh scent detectable at all.
In summary ...
This liquid is cheaper than other brand names, it cleans well and leaves clothing feeling soft. But there is no pleasant fragrance on clothing after washing - they smell clean and there is a faint fragrance to them but not a patch on my usual liquids! This may not be a problem for many people but I do really like the fresh fragrance left with my usual liquids so for this I have to knock off a star. But it's a good, competitively priced product that overall I would recommend.
Also in the Asda Orange and Papaya range is a double concentrated wash, fabric conditioner, and a fabric freshening spray.
When I last needed washing powder, I opted for this ASDA orange flower and papaya gel because none of the branded ones I like were on special offer. My fiancé is a bit of a brand snob (even though he denies it) and wasn't keen on me purchasing it, as he felt it wouldn't work as well as branded ones and that it would irritate his skin. Although I'd never tried this before, I insisted I wasn't going to pay over the odds just for a brand name and so went ahead and bought it.
The product is a gel and I do prefer this over a liquid or a powder. I used the Ariel Excel gels for quite a while and I find them less mess and less hassle as there's little risk of spillage and no cleaning the washing machine drawer out after use.
The gel comes in a tall bottle, not all that dissimilar to the Ariel one I have just mentioned. It has a plastic cap which doubles as a dosing device, but I have one minor niggle with the cap, which is that although measurements are printed on the inside, they are quite difficult to read and I often have to hold the cap up to the light. Like the Ariel gel there is a clear stripe along the outside of the bottle allowing you to see how much product is left, which is a handy feature.
To use, you simply dispense the gel into the cap and then place into the drum of the machine. The gel is orange in colour, fairly thick, and has a sweet, fruity scent to it. I can't really detect either orange flower or papaya in there, it's quite a generic fruity sort of smell to me, but it is pleasant and inoffensive.
I didn't realise at the time of purchase, but this product actually has added fabric softener, hence the 2-in-1 name. I actually have had problems with these sorts of products in the past (particularly Bold 2-in-1) as I suffer from eczema and it causes flare ups and rashes, so probably wouldn't have purchase it had I realise this, however it has caused no irritation to either me or my fiancé who also suffers from eczema.
After washing my clothes always look clean and whites look fresh. Given that we are a household of two and both do office jobs, I will admit that this product does not always have a lot of stains to actually contend with, however it has removed mud from my fiancés shorts and tops after he's been to football and removed tomato sauce from a tea towel. It may be worth noting that the packaging promises 'brilliant cleaning performance from 15 degrees' although I usually wash at 30 or 40 as these are the lowest settings my machine has. It is not suitable for hand washing.
As mentioned earlier in the review, I didn't notice at first that this has added fabric softener, so I was actually using a separate fabric softener at the same time as the gel the first few times I used this. Having now used it with both an additional fabric softener and on its own, I have to admit that I notice no real difference in the softness of my clothes after use. I do however notice, that the scent of this product is not very noticeable on my clothes when used alone. The packaging also claims it contains 'fragrance burst on the move' but again, I have not noticed this.
An 840ml bottle of this gives 28 washes and costs £3.00 from ASDA. I think that is a reasonable price, there are other laundry products on the market at a lower cost, but if I find my self in a situation where none of the branded ones I like are on offer, I would be willing to purchase this again. It is also available in Moonflower and Ylang Ylang, Bio, Colours and Non-Bio varieties.
Overall I am pleased with this product, it has outweighed my expectations really. It is a bit of a shame that the scent is not stronger, but the cleaning performance is great and I'd happily recommend it.
