Advantages: leaves clothes soft
Disadvantages: scent is very subtle to the point of unnoticeable
Firstly, I would like to point out that the product I am writing about is ASDA's moonflower and ylang ylang fabric softener - not fabric freshener - as is stated on the title, as that is a totally different product, but Dooyoo have told me to write the review here.
When I ordered my shopping online recently, I decided to stock up on some of the things that I find heavy to carry home from the shops myself, and bought lots of cleaning products including a bottle of ASDA's own fabric conditioner.
I actually ordered the Jasmine and ylang ylang fragrance but was sent Moonflower and ylang ylang instead - something I didn't realise until I came to use it for the first time.
The liquid is purple and comes in a clear bottle like the one pictured. The packaging is fairly basic, but functional, and isn't too different from the premium brands.
It is used like any other fabric conditioner - just under one capful should be added to the softener compartment of the washing machine drawer. If you have a larger load of washing or want extra freshness you can add a bit more. The product is also suitable for use in hand washing with only 18ml (just less than half a capful) required per 10l of water. Clear directions for the amount you should use are set out on the back of the bottle.
When I first came to use this, I was surprised that it didn't seem to have a very strong smell. Usually I can smell the scent of the fabric conditioner I am using when I pour it into the drawer, but this one didn't seem to have much of a fragrance, although if you put your nose to the bottle you can clearly make out that it does in fact have a scent.
After washing my clothes, I have found that they come out feeling soft, whereas a few months when I wasn't using fabric conditioner, I would find they seemed to take on a bit of a stiffness. The scent is more detectable on my actual clothes than it is when I put it into the drawer, although it is still quite subtle. The fragrance is really nice - a very feminine floral fragrance with a bit of a earthier undertone (which I assume is from the ylang ylang), and although I like it, it is quite girly, so perhaps not one for the men?
It does say on the front of the bottle 'fragrance burst on the move'. I assume this is supposed to be like Comfort, where they say it will release the fragrance throughout the day when you move. Although I have found this to be the case with Comfort, once I'm actually wearing clothes that have been washed with this I can never smell it at all.
A 750ml bottle of this will cost just 95p from ASDA which should give you 21 standard washes, which I think is fairly good value.
Overall, I think this is OK. It's reasonably priced and although it does leave clothes feeling soft, the fragrance is very subtle which is a bit of a shame. Even so, it's reasonable value for money, so I would buy it again.
Summary: OK, but I've used better
