Asda Numeral Candles
Advantages: Made well, light well, fun way to celebrate
I love parties and in this house I think we do them rather well. Decorations, balloons, and of course you have to have a cake and for my little boy and girl I most definitely have to have a number candle to show how old they are. My husband likes to put candles on my cake too and for my last birthday there were two lovely number 3 candles indicating that I was of course well approaching middle age and the ripe old age †of 33.
My little boy and girl are only 2 and 1 so so far I have used the 1 the 2 and the 3 from Asda and have been pleased with all of the candles so far. What I really like is that the shelves are always well stocked with numbers when you need them and that they are sold individually so you can buy any combination of numbers that you need. When you get up to the grand old age of 33 its much better to have two number 3 candles than 33 little candles which are a big fire risk!!
With our kids we have usually made their cakes ourselves and so this involves some sort of cartoon character or flowers, cars etc and not an actual number cake so I like to be able to add a number to their cake so when you look back at photos in years to come you know which birthday they were celebrating. These Asda candles work really well. They are quite thick and chunky and so stand up on the cake really well. They have a little smaller bit on the bottom of them that you can actually press into the cake so they will stand up on their own and you can take photos and light the candle and carry the cake and don't have to worry that the candle will fall off.†
The numbers are white and then have some sort of wax piping around the edge of the number in either pink or blue so you can either buy candles for boys or candles for girls which is nice. The numbers come in a little plastic sheet which you can reseal again once you have used the candle and I find this really handy to store the candles in as I like to use them again if I can.†
Whats great is that I can actually use these candles again. I have found that I only really light them for a minute or so. When my little girl was 1 we had a number 1 candle which we used twice as she had a family birthday party and then a birthday party with her little friends so the candle was lit for probably about a minute in total before she blew it out. This hardly made an indentation in the wax at the top of the candle and so you can use it again without half the candle missing which is nice. I am thinking that hopefully I can use it again next month for my little boys birthday but I may have bought her the pink one so I will have to check on that. The nice thing is that if I did its no big problem as the candles cost less than £1 and so to buy a new one is no real big expense.†
A nice way to celebrate birthday milestones!
