Advantages: Inexpensive, cleans well, smells lovely

Disadvantages: Can be a bit slippery if too much is used!

I'm always out to save a few pennies here and there and I like to buy the supermarkets' own brands of most things and washing up liquid is one of those things! The lavender and tea tree liquid is now just lavender and the bottle is a different shape - similar to that in the picture but with squared shoulders rather than rounded and a red bottle top and the labelling now has a large purple bubble with the words ASDA and Lavender in the middle of it and bubbles all around it. There is also a smaller bubble with the words 'Grease busting' on it! Having scoured the Asda website, I'm fairly sure that this has now replaced the lavender and tea tree product shown above.

I'm a big fan of scented washing up liquid, it helps to make the otherwise mundane experience altogether more pleasurable. When I bought this product I had a sniff in the shop and the scent of lavender is very delicate but still very noticeable. In other similar products I've tried, the scent hasn't been that noticeable once in the water so I was looking forward to trying this one as lavender is a scent I love!

My dad always used to go on at me and my mum for using far too much washing up liquid (but the bubbles are nice!!) so I'm always consciouss of how big a squirt I put in my washing up bowl! This washing up liquid doesn't disappoint when it comes to the bubble factor. A small amount of liquid creates lots of lovely bubbles which are delicately scented with lavender as I had hoped! Hooray! I tend to squirt the liquid under the tap as its running to get the best out of the bubbles. On the occasion when I have used too much, a slippery film can be felt on the dishes as they have been washed and I feel as though they need to be rinsed off again.

So, as far as cleaning quality goes, I have no complaints about this washing up liquid. It seems to clean as well as Fairy which is the only brand name washing up liquid I've used. As I mentioned before, use too much of the liquid and the plates feel like they need to be washed again but this washing up liquid has been able to bust the greasiest of grease off various pans and, after a bit of soaking first, blitz the remnants of lasagnes and casseroles from my dishes! A bottle lasts for ages, pretty much the same as a bottle of Fairy and I rarely need to buy more although I do tend to buy a couple of bottles at a time so it's ready in the cupboard.

A 500ml bottle costs 70p and it is on offer at the moment 2 bottles for £1 so value for money is excellent. I love the scent of this washing up liquid and its cleaning power, I just have to be careful not to use too much!

Summary: An excellent substitute for the leading brands.
