Advantages: cheap , clean well
Disadvantages: fall apart quicker than more expensive ones
Having an Asda and a Tesco supermarket pretty close to home does mean that I will often have products from both in my home depending on where I have done my main shop and where I have bought extra bits that I need throughout the month! One product that I am currently using at home is the Asda smart price sponge scourers and I have used this product many times throughout the years of having my own home.
Asda smart price sponge scourers come in a pack of five and they sell for just 14 pence! They come wrapped in a thin plastic packaging which simply has the Asda smart price name on, the product name and a few bits of information. The product does look simple and very cheap to be honest but let's face it who cares really when it is a product which sits under your sink and when actually in use requires no packaging at all anyway.
The sponge scourers aren't particularly big and are certainly much smaller than the store branded ones which seem thicker and larger in general. They are made from a white coloured sponge and they have a green rough scourer attached to the top of the sponge for removing trickier food stains.
I find that these scourers are fine for washing up with for the most part and they will last a few weeks as a rule before needing replacing. In terms of dealing with the normal day to day washing up these do work well and I find that the top part of the sponge is rough enough to tackle some tricky stains on my slow cooker pot in particular.
They wash up as well as any other brand of scourer that I have used in the past for the most part but I do have a couple of niggles with them. My first niggle is simply that the white sponge really is white and it could do with being yellow, or even coloured a different colour, because when I wash up plates and pans after making a curry the sponge is immediately stained an orange colour which no amount of washing up liquid will shift! Secondly towards the end of the sponge's life I often find that the scourer part of it starts to hang off and just generally look messy. It annoys me when the top is hanging off and so I will replace my sponge when this happens.
I will continue to purchase these sponge pan cleaners simply because whilst money is tight for everyone at the moment I think it makes sense to try and use value products wherever you feel you can and this is one of those occasions for me. Ok so they probably are used faster than the store brand equivalent but when you consider the price for Asda scourers is 14p per scourer and you can have five for that price when buying the smart price range it really does make sense to me.
Thank you for reading my review!
Summary: A good cheap product for washing your dishes
