Advantages: Cheap and cheerful

Disadvantages: Don't last a long time

This is a review of Asda Smart Price 5 Sponge Scourers which I buy regularly, as we have only just got our dishwasher re-installed, I have been hand washing all the pots for the last year since we moved in to this house. One of the most helpful things for hand washing is to have a good supply of these sponges to hand as they start off springy and keen and then end up a bit flat, sad and discoloured.

In use
I have used more expensive brands in the past and found their performance to be equally limited. Plus, I just don't think it's healthy to use the same sponge for weeks on end so taking out a new one of these every few days won't break the bank. I tend to use these to mop up spills on the floor and then throw them away taking out a new one for the pots again. Another thing I use them for is disinfecting the surfaces and chopping boards. We use a spray cleaner which is important having a toddler in the house and a baby on the way so any bugs or bacteria are kept at bay.

Description
To look at, the pads are yellow for the sponge bit and green for the wiry scouring part. OK they don't look glamorous but they do the job just fine.

Price
A pack of five sponges costs just 14p which is brilliant, and I don't feel guilty chucking them away. You have to look hard (usually on the lower shelves) for these as the more expensive versions are usually place at eye level in store.

My thoughts
Really, my thoughts are why pay more? I have tried more expensive sponges and some have lasted a little longer but I also find these great for tackling other cleaning tasks around the home and certainly if I have given the bathroom a good scrub I can throw the sponge away rather than trying to clean it and save it for the next cleaning session.

Random
Another use that is probably not on the list of recommendations is that I have used the harder side of the sponge when a car has touched my car and left their paint on it. I didn't scrub hard but found the abrasive side good enough to tidy up the paint work on my car.

Final word
It is good to have a stock of these sponges in for all cleaning duties. They work best for washing up but can be used to clean doors and pvc outside the house and window sills and other areas with soapy water. The abrasive side works well on bowls and pans and baked on food and the sponge side helps foam up washing up liquid. I am glad to have my dishwasher back in action now but will still hand wash using these sponges.

Summary: Good enough for us
