Asda Smart Price Dishwasher Tablets
Advantages: Very cheap, work well
Disadvantages: No scent
Dishwasher tablets aren't cheap, and I'd already changed from my usual Fairy Platinum to a non named copy but they were still £3 for 20 so not cheap cheap themselves. I tried the Wilkinsons own brand tablets but whilst they washed well the little rinse aid tablet fell out of the packet when I was opening it and I thought this really dangerous as I have a toddler who will eat anything off the floor so I won't be buying them again. I thought I'd fallen onto a winner when I saw Finish tablets in Poundland, £1 for ten, but really that's still 10p a wash and I was extremely disappointed with the result - bitty, cloudy glasses needing a second rinse.
I recently ran out of dishwasher tablets so as a last resort I used two teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda and one pinch of soda crystals and it brought everything out beautifully! So off I went shopping to find some dishwasher powder, the cheaper the better, convinced that we didn't need to spend a fortune.
I couldn't find any powder so I settled for trying Asda Smartprice Dishwasher Tablets, I previously wouldn't have held out much hope, but given my successful experiment with the bicarb I was hoping that this was basically just a block of bicarb and soda! The box is so plain and in my Asda right on the bottom shelf in the corner - it's a white box, longer than it is high, with a green crockery motif and the Smart Price logo on it. A lot of the reviews on here seem to be for a box of 30 but I've checked and mine is a box of 40, which I paid an amazing £1.42 for, which is fantastic and a lot more moneysaving than my £5+ bag of liquid dishwasher pouches.
So, I filled up my dishwasher, now there was dried on food from a pie dish in there, there were baby bottles, crockery, cutlery, chopping boards and serving spoons. I opened one plain white individual wrapper and inside was a plain block of white powder with chamfered edges.
My dishwasher's standard temperature is 65 degrees and takes about an hour so I left it to do it's job and when I came back I was pleasantly surprised to find that everything was sparkling clean, no residue, and no dulling of glass. There's no real scent with the dishwasher tablets other than 'clean', they're not scented, but I don't mind that especially for the price.
Since then I have used it for big baking bowls, serving spoons covered in mash (no way would the Finish tablets have managed those), burnt on cheese on a baking tray and the crock pot from the slow cooker, and it has managed the lot! Not once have I had to pre soak, or rinse afterward. Brilliant.
I can't believe I've found such a great dishwasher tablet for such a low price, I wish I had tried these earlier, I would have saved an absolute fortune. As long as they don't change the recipe or hike up the price I will stick with these Asda Smartprice Dishwasher Tablets, they're really good!
A very well deserved five out of five stars from me.
