I only tend to use my tumble dryer in the winter as I quite like my clothes to have that fresh outdoorsy smell that you don't get with indoor drying. So come winter, away goes the clothes line and in comes the tumble dryer.

I had heard of tumble dryer sheets before but was always a bit sceptical about their effectiveness. However, a few weeks ago I was reading a magazine article about "unusual uses for usual things". One of the items they were talking about was Tumble Dryer Sheets and they listed several ways these can be used apart from in the tumble dryer. On the strength of this I decided to invest in some and on my next shopping trip, to Asda as it happened I looked at the various makes of tumble dryer sheets. As I didn't know if I would get on with them I picked the cheapest which was Asda's own in Ylang & Jasmine fragrance - at 94p for 40 sheets, it was a cheap way of finding out if these things worked.

I firstly tried them in my tumble dryer, which is after all what they are meant for! The result was very pleasant smelling laundry and a nicely fragranced room. I'm not sure that I could say that the clothes felt softer or that ironing was easier - the claim on the box - but the nice fresh smell was an improvement on the sometimes, slightly damp, musty smell that can be got from a tumble dryer.

I then tried the ideas in the magazine article:

* Place one or two sheets inside the cardboard tube of the toilet roll before placing on the holder - gives bathroom a nice smell.
* One or two sheets in the dust bag of a vacuum cleaner give a pleasant smell to the room where it is used. (My hoover is an upright with a paper dust bag - not sure about use in other types of vacuum cleaner).

I will definitely buy these again as they were good value for money with a pleasant fragrance which definitely made my laundry have a nice fresh smell and the other uses above are a bonus.
