ASDA Ultimate Power Toilet Gel
Advantages: kills germs, leaves the loo sparkling, as good as the expensive brands
Disadvantages: bottle design could be better
With my cleaning business i ask my clients to provide the cleaning products, so i do find myself provided with a variety of cleaning products from all my clients. When it comes to cleaning toilets i have of course been provided with various incarnations of harpic, domestos and toilet duck, but one client this week left this new asda toilet cleaner out which i'd never seen before. I don't personally shop at asda so whether its new or not i'm not too sure. Anyway its called asda ultimate power toilet cleaner, and comes in a black 750ml. All in all its asdas discount version of the harpic powerplus brand. The black bottle resembles the harpic one, and even comes with the red safety cap!
Anyway the bottle is listed on asda website for around 80p, which is fairly cheap compared to most loo cleaners such as harpic powrplus which can cost around £1.80 unless its on offer. The bottles front label claims this cleaner will kill 99.9% of germs, remove limescale and clean your loo. The back has the usual list of precautions and instructions, namely to leave to work in your toilet for an hour if you want to kill the germs.
Using the product, because it was a new bottle, the safety cap was a bit of a squeeze to get off, which i suppose is good if you want to stop little hand opening it! The bottle is curved to reach under the rim, although its probably not as curved as brands such as toilet duck, with a little manouvering you are able to direct the bottle under the rim which is where you'll find most germs gather. With a good firm squeeze around the loo is imersed in a blue liquid with a citrus fragrance, which again resembles that of the harpic. I lowered the toilet seat and left the cleaner to work and then came back to finish it off when i came to cleaning the bathroom so it had at least a couple of hours application. When i returned i found the liquid had done a fairly good job of clinging to the sides, although it had started drip from below the rim. I flushed the loo and most of the blue liquid had been flushed. With a little bit of a wipe and another flush the loo was left sparkling with the water filled with that just cleaned foam. The fragrance hung around too emphasisng the just cleaned appearance. The toilet was left with no marks and was sparkling so lived to its claims of removing limescale and cleaning. As for germs, i obviously can't see the buggers, but reading the ingreadiants it contains dissinfectant, so you safely assume that they have all been killed off too.
All in all, this is a very good toilet cleaner for the price. It seems to clean just aswell as harpic or domestos but is obviously a lot cheaper in price so i would definitely recommend this.
