Advantages: covered well
Disadvantages: ?
I sit here at my computer and look up at the ceiling. I see a white ceiling it is a papered ceiling, painted over with B &Q white silk finish one coat emulsion. Most of the other ceilings in our house are also painted in this white paint. You may say a white painted ceiling is boring why not add some colour we did consider this, but I like a light bright room and white reflects the light makes a room look larger than if it is painted a colour. The walls are coloured anyway. Why did I choose b &q paint? Well I have B&Q close to work its easy to call in after work so there is the convenience of buying at B&Q, Next I have used other B & Q paints and find them nearly as good if not as good as named paints. A long time ago we used own brands paints and they were not very good but this paint is good quality paint Then there is the price b &q white vinyl emulsion costs £1.10 a litre. Crown silk costs £ 2.40p a litre Dulux costs £2.oop a litre so that’s a big savings. This paint comes in a white plastic tub (excellent for keeping the kids toy bricks in when washed out after use) with a large red label with Value written in yellow and white silk emulsion and instructions written on in white. This tub has a good carry handle. This tub contains 5 litres of paint. So we dusted and cleaned the ceiling and chose our preferred weapons I chose a paintbrush husband chose a roller. I do not like using rollers I always get in a mess but husband prefers them says its quicker, I prefer to use a large brush, you could always use a paint pad if preferred. Nick, since he chose a roller painted the centre of the ceiling I painted around the edges and the light fittings this made it easier we did not get in each other’s way. I opened the plastic lid it was a good fit making a good tight seal when opened I dipped my brush into the paint it was a fairly thick creamy consistency no drips. The paint flowed easily it was eas
y to apply my husband with a roller happily rolled it smoothly over a large expanse of ceiling while I slower with my pain brush smoothly painted the edges. I cannot remember now how long it took but I remember it was not too laborious a feat, we finished for a late supper after starting early afternoon It was left to dry overnight and we thought we could give it another coat the next morning . However we did not need to, the paint had dried to a lovely finish no need for another coat . I suspect this may be different if used over a dark colour but we painted white over white. This paint is lead free and is safe to use in childrens rooms. It has a low odour while we were painting yes there was a light paint smell but it was not overpowering. Probably best if you air the rooms well after using anyway . I think we had our windows open. If ingested drink plenty of water a charcoal slurry would be good if you feel unwell get some medical advice. If you splash some in your eyes (Jill I hope your brother did not splash you with this paint as well as the cuprinol (brothers!)). Immediately rinse with plenty of water if irritation continues get medical advice. If you splash this on your skin rinse it have with lots of soap and water if you get an irritation get medical advice If the fumes are too much for you move to fresh air. If you get breathing problems seek medical advice. These are standard precautions for any paint. And there is advice on the paint tub and on the product information on the B &Q web page. When the painting is finished seal the paint tub and the paint will last for another job. The lid made a good seal when it was replaced. Time to clean the brushes and clean up any spills. There were not many spills and those there were wiped of well with a damp cloth with washing up liquid and water on it this should be done immediately. The paintbrush equally easily cleaned with wat
er and a little washing up liquid. I wore old clothes that would not matter if splashed. I made little mess and any paint on my clothes came out easily in the wash. Overall Yes I would recommend B &Q silk vinyl white emulsion for painting your home its allwight. Thanks for reading . I shall be glad when I have finished with D I Y . Our sitting room is fairly long and thin its really 2 rooms the adjoining wall has been knocked down making it one large room. I had plenty of paint for the ceiling for emultion paint coverage is somewhere between 11 and 15 sq metres per litre. Coverage somewhere between 11 and 15 sq metres 5x 12
