I'm currently living in a mess at the moment, I have four rooms currently work in progress and to get them finished I will let of a sigh of relief. DIY when doing it on a big scale can be a costly expense, however I have been trying to work on a budget and I am getting there slowly but surely.

In order to to reduce costs when I saw B&Q value emulsion, 5 litres for an extremely good price I couldn't help but buy some. I have always stuck to what I know in the past, Dulux and Crown etc, purely because they are the best and they do a better job. Initially I thought the B&Q won't be that good but it can't be that bad either so I took the plunge hoping that I could get the ceilings in majority of my rooms done with just the one tub.

When I buy paint I can't leave it sitting there I have to get stuck in straight away, so as soon as I got home, I thought I would get my brushed out and start in one of the smaller rooms, the bathroom and start painting the ceiling. 20 minutes later and I had given the ceiling it first coat however it did need a second coat which as a rule you normally have to do a couple of coats anyway to get the best results, however after two and then three coats I decided to give up.

I used this paint on one of my doors and to get the results that I wanted I had to do at least five coats and I ended buying a better quality og paint in the end.

Its not completely useless, it's good for an undercoat and then do a top coat with a decent paint however if you want to cut costs this is not the way to do it. It's a waste of money as you use a great deal more of it to get the results you want, spend more than time than you actually want to do the job and more money because it gets used up a lot faster than the likes of Dulux. After a while it does start to discolour a lot easier than more expensive paint so not good to use in rooms such as kitchen and bathroom where there is excess steam.

Better to send a bit more and get the job done quicker and more cost effective.

Emulsion isnt any good to paint doors with Gem, get a tin of gloss paint.

You need gloss paint on a door - emulsion is for walls and ceilings. Mind you I tend to find that the cheap ones aren't much good, Susan

Its perfect for rollering over a dark colour, before sticking an expensive paint on it. For anything else though its worthless. I wouldn't recommend an emulsion on a door. They sell decent water based "gloss" style paints these days anyway.
