Advantages: Pays for itself after a single use

Disadvantages: Less purchase with straight handle

This is a must for anyone who is considering buying any flat-pack furniture. I struggled for years without a power screwdriver but after a trip to MFI sale I ordered rather too much furniture for both bedrooms and my office. When all the flat-packs arrived one of the delivery guys said I hope you’ve got an electric screwdriver. I had to agree and promptly popped out to B&Q for the Black and Decker electric screwdriver.

This rechargeable power driver worked well with six torque settings to adjust the amount of power applied to the screws. The screwdriver came with a good selection of nine interchangeable bits (three sizes for each of the three types Philips, Pozi-drive and slotted). There is a magnetic barrel too so that you can stick a screw on the end of the bit and use the screwdriver to offer it up to the hole it space is tight to hold it in place with your other hand.

This has not made the job easier to assemble all this furniture but rather made it possible. Otherwise, half of the units would still be in the flat-packs in which they were delivered.

No more blisters for me! But if I didn’t already have a power drill I think I would have bought a combined drill-driver as the trigger-style handle would make it even easier to apply high torque to screws. This driver still will go into places where there is not enough room for a drill-driver so I am still very pleased with it.

I struggled for hours putting a bunk bed together with a normal screwdriver. After several blisters I THEN decided to ask my neighbour if he had something better. I leant me the same one you've reviewed and it was brilliant - even if I only used it for the last few screws.
