I wanted a cordless drill as I have just moved into a new home and had a considerable amount of DIY to do. I looked around a variety of DIY shops and settled on the B&D Firestorm 18v Cordless drill from B&Q (£89). It caught my eye as I needed both cordless freedom and the hammer drill option that this provided. It was also from a decent brand name which I've had good experiences with in the past. The pack came with 2 batteries and a fst charger, a double ended screwdriver attachment and a detachable handle for stability in high power jobs. After buying a new house and expecting the worst from the DIY needed, I went out and bought a nice new drill. I have had 3 drills in my life. 2 were cheap nasties and burnt out so this time I opted for quality. It is also my first venture into the world of Cordless wonderment. Before I have had to be near a plug socket but not anymore! My drill is a middle of the road 12 Volt drill. Not as much power as the 18 Volt model but its also not twice the price. I was told anything less than 10 volts cant cut the mustard. It is also a hammer drill so it makes a bit of noise if you start drilling into brickwork on this setting. At the same time, ... I recently bought a Black & Decker 12volt Firestorm drill with torch set and am very impressed with it. This was a special offer bundled pack comprising of plastic storage case, charger, drill, torch and 2 batteries. The torch & extra battery were free, making it very good value for money. The torch takes the same battery as the drill and gives a strong beam. The drill is well made from abs plastic, this should make it fairly resilient to knocks but only time will tell. The 12v batteries give a reasonable worklife and can be recharged in 3 hours, the second battery was a real bonus as you can carry on working whilst the other recharges. The ...
