Then I remembered the Black & Decker wallpaper stripper I had inherited a few years earlier but had refused to use. (If water and a scrapper were good enough for my parents, it was good enough for me!) I dusted down the box, filled the stripper with water and plugged it in. With the appliance in one hand and a scrapper in the other, I set to work. I couldn't believe it - the wallpaper came off very easily. I don't...more

A couple of weeks ago I decided to redecorate my hall. Not a job I was particularly looking forward to, too many doors to paint for a start! Now can we afford to get the decorators in? No spent too much money already. So I started to take off the wallpapering the old fashioned way applying water with a sponge then scraping it off with a scraper, tum ti ...

I bought a Black & Decker wallpaper stripper a few years ago when they first came out. This is an electric stripper that gives steam through many holes on it's underside, like a lrge steamiron. The adverts looked very good, effortless stripping of all wallpapers, having started to redecorate this would be a good buy ? Having used it you are better off sticking to the old fashioned way of water, sponge and scrapper. The steamer needs to be frequently refilled with water, although this is fairly straightforward to do it is heavy when full. The baseplate clogs up with bits of wallpaper and glue so needs to be cleaned quite often. When it is steaming it ...
