Bold 2 in 1 Gel Lavender and Camomile
Advantages: Smells fresh and clean. Saves your washing machine pipes and drawers from powder clogging. Effective
Disadvantages: A little more pricey than some other products
I am quite fussy when it comes to both washing detergent and fabric softener. I have extremely sensitive skin and once came up in terrible hives from a cheaper branded washing detergent, which has certainly put me off using particular brands of detergent, and has me sticking to just a few of the more well known brands, which I have tried and tested over the years. Unfortunately for me, this has left me paying a little more than some will have, over the years, for washing detergent and fabric softener, which is just something I have had to come to accept, for the sake of comfort!
'Bold' has always been one of my trust worthy brands to use, I have never suffered any skin irritation form their products, and neither has my daughter from being a very small age, which was a big concern for me when she came along!
I had used this particular fragrance of Lavender and Chamomile Bold various times over the years, in powder detergent form. It wasn't until my new washing machine, which I had only had for 6 weeks, decided to cause a nasty flood in my kitchen due to pipes clogged with washing powder, that I decided to look around for an alternative to powder detergent.
I just so happened to find Bold 2in1 gel whilst it was on offer at a reduced price at my local supermarket, and thought I would give it a whirl, since the gel came with a measuring cap which you placed directly inside the washing machine drum, I thought it would be the perfect solution to avoiding a repeat performance of the blocked pipes.
I had avoided this product in the past as it did strike me as a little more expensive than many of the alternative detergents, and if I'm honest, I found it hard to believe that such a small container would perform as many washes as it claimed to!
As you may have guessed from the blocked pipes in my washing machine, I do like to use a fair size of detergent in my wash loads, but this is because I had always found I needed a considerable amount of powder detergent to have my washing come out smelling fresh and clean. When I tried to cut down on my amount of powder detergent, I found my washing still smelt a little stale when I got it out of the washer.
I was extremely pleasantly surprised to find that when I used the Bold 2in1 gel, and only filled the cap provided to the measurement line as directed, My washing still came out smelling lovely and fresh! And the scent itself is really soothing, as the ingredients would suggest, it has a lovely herbal, clean scent.
I have to say that I was wrong to question the amount of washes I would get out of this bottle, as I only had to use a small amount as directed.
I do still tend to use a little fabric softener along with this gel, but I have always used fabric softener in conjunction with any 2in1 detergents, that is just my personal preference. But if that isn't something that you would chose to do, then you are saving on having to buy fabrics softener, on top of this product, which is another bonus.
I actually think that this product is good value, although I know a few people consider it a little pricey, as you do get the amount of washes you are paying for, which is something I don't believe I have always recieved from other products. The product retails at an average of £4.99 for 592 ml, that is16 washes, or £7.19 for 888ml that is 24 washes. Bold 2in1 powder detergent retails at an average of £6.49 for 25 washes, so if you look at it like that you do supposedly get a little less for your money. But as I say, considering I never really did get the stated amount of washes out of the powder detergent, and considering I have had no further problems of clogged washing machine pipes since using this product, I would say it is well worth the difference in price and I will certainly continue using this product over other options.
Another thing to consider, is that I have often found this product available at discounted prices in various, big names supermarkets and local shops, so I don't end up paying the full retail price half of the time. If you shop at Sainsburys and have a Nectar card, you also recieve money off coupons for this product from time to time as well.
This product has definitely saved my washing machine from another leak and I have had no further problems with blocked pipes since using it, which is going to have potentially saved me extremely large amounts of money in labour costs getting it fixed again!
You can currently buy the 24 wash size of this product at Tesco for half the normal retail price, at £3.59 it is a serious bargain! So I would say stock up now!
Summary: Stock up while on offer!
