Bold 2 in 1 Powder:
Lavender & Chamomile Fragrance
One of my favourite Laundry products has to be Bold 2 in 1 and for a few years now my favourite fragrance is the Lavender and Camomile as I love the smell of lavender. A very long time ago I stopped using a separate conditioner due to my daughter developing an allergic reaction to it, therefore I became used to not using conditioner. As she has long since left home I cannot remember exactly when but it would have been on offer when I decided to try Bold 2 in 1.
The USP of the Bold 2 in 1 range is the claim that it will "uses Perfume Micro Capsule technology - perfume micro bubbles attach themselves to clothes fibres during the wash and these bubbles retain their contents until the garment is worn, when any light touch releases the fragrance throughout the day." (Supersavyme). The fragrance is definitely long lasting and actually I enjoy walking into my wardrobe when it contains plenty of Bold washed garments as the smell is so nice. I tend to use perfume, however, I do notice the freshness retains on my husband's cloths in the evening and the odd time I don't apply a fragrance such as at weekends when buming around, I do notice the fragrance from time to time as I move.
I wash the majority of my laundry at 40 degrees and find that this Bold always gets my washing very clean and I have never had to re-wash anything when using Bold. I also often wash at 30 degrees when using the Bold for lightly soiled garments, bedding and so and I am always happy with the results. The 800g box is flashed as up to ten washes, which was more like eight when I lived in a hard water area, now that we have chemical free water from a bore hole, I can use much less detergent and therefore one small box will last me ages at the soft water dosage.
The box is a lovely mauve colour and features a plant that looks more like lilac than lavender or chamomile. On the back of the box is the usual care and health and safety advice as well as recycling instructions. Also featured is the Irritant icon of a big black cross on an orange background and the words 'keep out of the reach of small children'. Which is obviously essential advice.
I have used Bold 2 in 1 for my grand children's clothes and my pets bedding with no adverse effects for either of these user groups.
Whilst the fragrance of the powder is floral and fresh and there is obviously a Lavender hue to it, don't discount it if you are not mad on Lavender it is not as strong in the fragrance as you might think. I love the smell in the house when my washing is drying indoors and even if I run the washing machine during the day. I use the Gel and Tablets as well and I think the powder probably has the strongest fragrance and this is my favourite Bold fragrance.
Performance & Ironing:
My laundry is always soft to touch and ironing if required is easy.
Price & Availability:
Ten wash size is currently £3.00 from Asda who appear to be the only supermarket currently stocking that size. (Mysupermarket) with the larger 22 wash size being £7.10 in most stores but on offer in Tesco and Asda where available.
I love Bold 2 in 1 products and it is one of the laundry products I look out for on offer, I do not hesitate to recommend it as a superior laundry product that seems to live up to the claims.
I have been using Bold 2 in 1 products for as long as I can remember and am very happy with the results. I know a lot of people will only use separate washing powder or liquid and softener and this is what I used to do before I tried this. Out of all the Bold fragrances this Lavender and Camomile is definitely my favourite as I do love the smell of lavender. I have probably bought most of the sizes available but the one I am currently using is the 800g which cost me £3.00 from Asda. This size is currently £3.40 at Tesco and Waitrose and £3.50 at Sainsbury's.
This powder is best suited for normal soiled items and Bold claim that it will give your clothes twelve hours wear of a 'clean and fresh feeling'. I probably don't wear my clothes for that long as I will change when I get home from work but the smell is definitely long lasting. Obviously I can smell it when I first put my clothes on but then my nose seems to get used to it, but if I go to the loo or put my coat on and off or do anything else to create a blast of air around me this seems to reactivate the smell and I can smell it all over again which is lovely. The lavender smell is a lot more potent than the camomile but as this is one of my favourite fragrances I am happy with this, however it may be a bit too 'girlie' for some men.
I do the majority if my washing at 30 degrees and find that this Bold always gets my washing very clean and I have never had to re-wash anything. This 800g box is supposed to be enough for ten washes but I would say that I will get more like twenty out of it as I find that I don't need the recommended scoop for my laundry, however if you have a family with babies or young children who tend to attract dirt, paint and mud and such like, you may need to use the correct amount. Using it at this rate a box this size would last me for around seven weeks as I only wash on average three times a week so for me it is very good value.
As the name would suggest the smell of this powder is floral and fresh and I love the smell in the house when my washing is on the clothes airer or radiators. My clothes, linen and towels are always soft to the touch and don't need too much ironing which is a bonus. I love Bold 2 in 1, both the powder and the liquid and I will buy whichever the best buy is at the time. If you have never tried a 2 in 1 product I would highly recommend this one as it really does what it says on the tin (or the box!).
My partner is allergic to most liquid washing detergents so we always use powder ones. We would usually buy surf but on running out we went to makro for more and they didn't have any surf so we decided to give bold a try. The offer was any 2 boxes for £20 (I'm not sure if that included VAT or not, I can't remember now). We chose one lavender and chamomile and one crystal rain and white lily. Each box is a xxl pack which is a massive 6.8kg. They are biological powder and fabric conditioner in 1 which saves having to buy fabric conditioner separately which I like as even when I have fabric conditioner in the house I always forget to put it in the washing machine.
I chose to use the lavender one first, after unloading the washing machine the first thing I noticed was there was some white residue left on the clothes, I had used the recommended amount of powder which is stated on the back of the box but it was too much, I cant remember how much I'd used but it was over 100ml. Now I only use 75ml and it works fine, there's no white residue left on the clothes but yet the clothes still come out clean and leave a lovely soft scent of lavender on them. I recently ran out of lavender and opened the crystal rain and white lily box but I don't think this one has much scent to it, I definitely preferred the lavender one and wish I had bought 2 lavender instead. The clothes come out nice and clean and any stubborn stains I put some stain remover in too but as there is only me and my partner using this powder our clothes aren't particularly dirty when they go in so I'm not sure if this works well enough on children's clothes which might be more dirty. We do have two dogs though which come in covered in mud from the garden and then lay on the dogs bed leaving it filthy and this washing powder leaves the bed nice and clean so it should work well enough for family's. The clothes are left lovely and soft.
As there is only me and my partner we only do around 3 loads of washing a week which of course means I bought way to much washing powder, as I only use 75ml in each wash it already lasts twice as long as you'd expect but only doing a few loads a week has meant that one box managed to last me 7 months. To spend £10 on a box of washing powder which lasts 7 months is brilliant but the box is quite big and takes up a lot of space in the kitchen, if I had a utility room I wouldn't of minded the big box being there but as I have to keep it in the kitchen I think I'll get smaller boxes next time. I've only used a small amount of the crystal rain and white lily powder though so it will probably last me another 5 months yet anyway. If you have a large family and doing a load of washing a day then this box would be a good size for you.
There was no measuring jug inside it so if you don't already own one then I'm not sure what you're suppose to do, luckily I already owned one so just used that one.
Overall I'm very impressed with the lavender washing powder and will continue to buy it when I eventually need to purchase more but maybe I wont buy such a large pack next time.
As I have a lot of children and grand children, I find that I am the master of the machine. Somedays up to 6 wash loads, so I like to have something that smells nice and fresh in the air.
Made by Procter & Gamble, this biological powder, detergent and fabric softener, Bold 2 in 1, comes in a variety of sizes, a 10 wash pack, a 22 wash, a 38 wash,and a 90 wash ......... and a variety of fragrances, the very first original was addictive, then they adventured on to others like White Lily, Peony & Rose Blush, Ruby Jasmine, 1 of my favourites is Lavender & Camomile, I also like the Orange Blossom. The prices of this retail from £2.49 for the small pack, up to around £16 for the xx large. At the moment having shopped around I find that Farmfoods are selling the 38 wash pack for £4.95 which is the cheapest I have seen.
The softness and freshness of this powder is something to be treasured, the children smell nice, and come home saying the teacher said they always smell lovely. That's down to the powder, which lasts a long time, just a cupful in each wash is all that's needed. Unless you have a larger machine like a 7kg, or live in an area where its harder water, then a little extra would be needed. This just enhances the fragrance though, which I'm happy about.
Cleans clothes beautifully whilst softening them with the built in softener, hence the 2 in 1, also convenient instead of buying a separate softener too.
The ingredients in this product are :- (based on the 38 wash pack of Lavender & Camomile)
5-15% Anionic surfactants
Oxygen based bleaching agents
<5% Non-ionic surfactants
It also instructs if you are unsure of colour fastness of a new item, then you need to wash it separately, in a cool solution. and never soak or wash above 50 degree's C.
As with all products, if it gets in your eyes you must wash out immediately with cold water and seek medical advice.
Also to be kept away from small children.

There are also gel tabs, and liquid gel along with the powder, but I prefer the powder.
Fantastic product from a reputable manufacturer.
==Bold 2in1 Lavender & Camomile Washing Powder==
Sorry I haven't written a review in a while, beenn to busy to do so!
Bold 2in1 Washing Powder seems to be the Marmite of the world of washing powders, you either love it or you hate it respectively! I quite like it, because it is one of the few laundry detergents that fullfils all of it's claims. It does all of the three things it claims to do, aswell as the lovely fragrance! Aswell as Ariel & Daz, this washing powder is one of the best & I actually suggest whatever price you pay for a box it is well worth it!
Bold is a laundry detergent that is available in many formats. It was first launched in 1972 but not as a 2in1. It was designed for automatic washing machines which were of course a brand spanking new invention at the time! However, 10 years later, in 1982, Bold was re-launched as a 2in1 (formerly 3in1) laundry detergent which claimed to 'Clean, Soften & Freshen' with many television adverts to back this up. Bold launched their own laundry liquid in 1990 followed by 2 fragrances in 1994. In 2008 Bold launched their 2x Super Concentrate Liquid. This is now discontinued. 2009 saw the launch of their own Super Concentrate Gel, which contained 50% more fragrance with every drop. Today many fragrances are available from Bold even a range which has 'Touch of Lenor Freshness'.
==About My Bold==
My Bold is the classic 'Lavender & Camomile' fragrance that was launched in 2005. I bought it from Costcutter where it was (still is) half price at only £1.59. It is price marked at £3.19. The box itself is a square/ rectangular box which is purple. The very familiar Bold 2in1 logo is stuck in the middle with a swirl of Lavenders & Camomiles around the outside, this just fills up the plain area around the logo. A dark blue wave which contains the words 'FRESH FEELING with every touch, even after 3 WEEKS of storage'. The 10 wash basket is displayed in the bottom left hand corner. The rest of the box contains dosing instructions, cautions & fragrance information.
==Performance of the Product==
I decided to put Bold Lavender & Camomile to the test & used it on some very smelly bedding that literally stunk! I loaded the machine up, & proceeded to put the powder in. The box used to have a metal pull out spout which doses the powder but they have now been replaced by an outlined 'push in' tab, similar to that of a 'Poppet' box. I could'nt be bothered to measure according to the box so I just poured an amount in. Only about half the drawer was covered & the smell was wafting up as I poured the powder into the dispenser drawer. I set the wash to the Quick 30 wash & left the machine to do it's work.
About 5 minutes into the wash I came to check on it & saw plenty of foam was gathering up as the wash spun around. As the box claimed to have Detergent & Fabric Softener I did'nt bother to add Fabric Conditioner so the process of putting detergent into the drawer was fast, effecient & simply done.
==...& the Results...==
Well, what can I say, I was impressed! As this powder is Biological the colours would have probably faded as this bedding was very colourful with the bright red & orange dots so this looked OK. The cleanliness of the laundry was brilliant, as all the marks were gone. The softness of the laundry was brilliant, much softer & fluffier than clothes washed with seperate softener aswell which is good. The freshness probably just topped all of the rest, as the disgusting smell was gone & was replaced by this calming & relaxing fragrance. The 3 Week claim was definately true, because even after 2 weeks of use, the smell is still faintly evidable.
This laundry detergent does good & smells good basically! It cleans, softens & the fresheness lasts & lasts & lasts! It makes everything easier to iron as well, & the fragrance is so relaxing, but what a shame it dosen't send me off to sleep! Oh well, I don't really want to wash clothes then wear them & I will fall asleep though!
==Thanks for Reading!==
I am not loyal to any particular brand when it comes to buying soap powder detergent for my household, and regularly take advantage of any special offer buys or 'BOGOF' offers that may apply at the time of me doing my grocery shopping. This means that I buy a variety of detergent products and have tried out many brands over the years.
One product that I have been buying quite a lot of recently is the 'Bold 2in1' powder' mainly because a local (independent) grocery store that I regularly shop in has been running a promotional deal for a range of Bold 2in1 powder products for the last several months, so I have been taking advantage of this money-saving deal.
The Bold 2in1 detergent powder that I have been buying recently is in the "Lavender & Camomile" fragrance. I have been buying this powder for the past couple of months and have found it performs excellently at washing the laundry for my household.
Packaged in a lilac-coloured cardboard box with pretty flowers detailing the front of the box, you could be forgiven for assuming this product was a very girly or feminine one. The overall 'image' of the product seems to be a flowery fragranced detergent and I can't help but wonder if this would put some people off from trying the product out for themselves, or certainly some male consumers!
The box that I have been buying of late is the small 800g size which suits me perfectly as there is only myself and my husband at home, so I would imagine I have considerably less laundry than other households. The box informs me that this is enough for ten loads of washing, but I have to stress that I get more than that from it as I do quite a lot of 'half-loads' thanks to a handy setting on my washing machine. Also, the smaller-sized box fits perfectly into the small space allocated for it in my kitchen cupboards - I am very short of space in this room, so this is certainly an issue for me.
Pouring the detergent powder from the box is simple and easy to do thanks to the metal 'spout' that is neatly incorporated into the side of the box. I am not required to tear or rip the cardboard, so the addition of the metal spout, and it's ease of use, means that little or no powder is wasted when I pour it into my machine.
The appearance of the Bold Lavender & Camomile looks to me to be quite similar - if not identical - to most other brands that I buy regularly including Surf and Supermarket-own branded detergents. Suffice to say, the powder is a white colour and has a fairly fine texture to it.
The smell of this particular detergent powder is evident as soon as I pour the powder into the drawer on my machine. The smell is not at all over-powering or at all sickly, which is something I had been slightly wary of when first choosing this powder over any other. In actual fact, the flowery fragrance is quite sweet and slightly fruity, and I find it quite pleasant.
When it comes to laundry products and detergents like the Bold 2in1, I am not a consumer who is particularly bothered by how long the product's fragrance will last on my clothes. I am completely indifferent to such matters, truth be told. However, for the purposes of this review, and in case it is of relevance to fellow consumers, I am going to comment on my findings on this occasion.
Firstly, I found that the fragrance was very evident as I removed the wet washing from my machine and proceeded to hang it up. I noticed the rather gentle flowery scent easily whilst the laundry was drying, and it is true to say that the fragrance seemed quite strong although I liked it and thought it was pleasant. When it came to ironing my laundry or indeed wearing it, I found little or no traces of the flowery fragrance was evident, which is probably just as well, as I can't really imagine my husband being particularly comfortable with his work shirts smelling of flowers and lavender somehow! If the latter had been the case then the Bold 2in1 powder probably wouldn't have been such a regular purchase in my household as I know for a fact my husband hates flowery smells and fragrances, especially on his own person, and for the most part so do I.
The detergent itself seems to me to be of a fairly high quality as I have found all of my clothes are crisp and clean when they have been washed with the Bold 2in1. Furthermore, I find that the product is effective at removing small stains and marks from my clothing, and I was pleased with the cleaning abilities of the product overall. However, with 'stronger' stains such as coffee and ink, I found that I had to use a separate stain-removing product, but this is normal practice with any brand of laundry detergent as far as I am concerned, so I won't be deducting any marks from the product rating for this.
In terms of the claims made on the packaging that the product will give me "12 hours of wear - clean and fresh feeling" well, I can't help but feel this is a bit untrue. Not only does the fragrance of the detergent not last that long (whether I want it to or not is irrelevant), but I don't feel that my clothes stay any cleaner, or for any longer, than when I use any other laundry detergent product that I buy regularly, so I am gong to deduct one star for the rather misleading claims made.
As the Bold 2in1 Lavender & Camomile is a detergent with added fabric softener, my laundry is unsurprisingly pleasantly soft when I have washed it using the Bold 2in1, and my bedding and linen such as towels feel soft and comfortable. I cannot comment on how the results from the Bold 2in1 compare to that of a separate detergent and fabric softener product as it is a long time since I have done my laundry using this method and don't want to give misleading comments.
I have experienced no ill-effects from using the Bold 2in1 in terms of any aggravation to my sensitive skin or my eczema
Overall, I am very happy with the results achieved from using the Bold 2in1 with Lavender and Camomile and will continue to buy it. It does everything I am looking for from my laundry detergent and I really like the sweet flowery fragrance, and I think the powder is a fairly high quality product.
The Bold 2in1 Lavender & Camomile laundry detergent powder is available to buy in all good supermarkets such as Tesco and Asda. The 800g box that I have is currently on special offer in Asda (as @ October 2011) and is available for the price of £2.50. There are larger sizes of the product available.
