Advantages: Versatile, easy to use

Disadvantages: Leaves a mess, not incredibly useful

Blu Tack is an adhesive comparable to Sellotape, drawing pins etc. - even glue to some extent. Most people use it to stick things to walls as it holds fast and will keep flat, light things attached to them.

Blu Tack comes in a small, think cardboard packet and is usually in sheet form between two shiny pieces of paper to help it retain its stickiness.

I used to use Blu Tack to stick revision notes and diagrams up on the walls and it did a pretty good job. New, fresh Blu Tack is very sticky and can be too sticky. This means that if you're trying to remove paper stuck to a matt surface with Blu Tack, it's not easy!! Mostly it will leave blue stains on your wall which is a bit of a problem. If you're careful you can use a 'magic eraser' (try Wilkos/Pound shop) to gently remove the marks. However, if that doesn't work you may need to redecorate!

It's for this reason that at uni, we weren't allowed to use Blu Tack in halls. However, we were allowed to use White Tack. Not only is this less visible on the vast majority of walls, it also seemed to be a lot easier to remove generally. So I'd recommend trying that instead if you're planning to take your poster/art/recipes/revision/whatever down at some point in the future.

Blu Tack can also have the opposite problem of not being sticky enough, particularly after the packet has been opened. Unfortunately there is no solution to this other than buying a new pack, so try to keep it away from air for long periods (before use).

Blu Tack is very stretchy which means you can pull a bit of quite easily with no need for scissors or anything else. You can also easily mould it to the size and shape you want, much like plasticine. Its versatility makes it a stationery essential, though I rarely have reason to use it any more.

Summary: Tacky tac
