Advantages: Great looking easy to use and empty bin, with great capasity
Disadvantages: Very expensive, one really has to think twice about investing...but you will!!!
I have coveted the Brabantia shiney Chrome dustbin for some years now.....Oh how sad am I?? Need to get out more, but its the truth. We are a standard, family of 4 and generate a colossal amount of litter, and we recycle everything that can be, AND I have the whole home compost thing going on. So, I really wanted the 50l version, so £110.00 big ones.
The reason it was difficult to spend all that money, was that I had a super cool retro Push can that I had bought in Harvey Nix back in the day for over £100. That was a terrible bin, the push can part got terribly dirty all the time, I mean all the time...manky. All food used to splosh on the front, and the can went all the way to the floor so terrible to change the bin bag. It really took 2 people.
So, to my glee, I managed to get my 50ml Chrome shiney Brabantia bin in Costco (wholesaler) for £65.00. I skipped all the way to the car boot with it and left the trendy Retro poop next to the Wheelie bin....yippee.
So, the bin as I have mentioned it Chrome. It does need maintaining to keep it looking tip tip, a simple wipe with a glass cleaner every other day does the trick. Others less but I have sticky fingered toddlers roaming with fruit etc.......
The top is slanted and made of hard black plastic. It has a dent on the top the you push by hand to open. It has a very smooth operation to open and close and it is very reliable. Always clicks closed, simply. The lid has 2 cut out holes on the side that the carry handles of the bin fit neatly into stopping the lid from moving about. The lid is easy to remove and the bin liner comes out very easily and never seems to stick as I was used to!!!!!
I was not a fan of the black plastic lid, but it is great to keep clean. No finger marks are visible, and a simple anti-bac spray and kitchen roll wipe does the trick.
The only negative about this bin, is that the bin liner shows over the top, and my kids have a tendancy to 'play' with it.....wierdos.....The can be dealt with by buying Brabantia Bin liners, but the are considerably more expensive than the heavy weight ones I tend to buy.
Oooo, nearly forgot to mention....my bin came with a 10 year guarentee. Can't really ask for more!
Summary: A top quality bin with a great mechanism.

- 10/06/09 My sister has one of these bins - they look fab but she pays through the nose for bin liners for it. |
