I recently made a bacon butty and forget about it while playing my iPod, lol! The fire alarm went off and the kitchen was smoking, oops! ;-p I was told where the Brillos were under the sink and told to get on with the horrible job of cleaning the burnt on meat off the frying pan, yuk :( Brillo pads are made by S C Johnson and are made out of wire wool compressed together with a dried pinky purple soap dried into them to help remove stubborn burnt on grease and charred marks on pans, etc. Costing £1.14 from Wilkinson's so I'm told, you get ten pads in a plastic container with a sealed thin lid. I was advised not to ... Read the complete review

Brillo Pads are a very useful cleaning product to have spare in your cleaning cupboard as they are ideal for tough stains and giving things an excellent clean. You can get a packet of 10 for just £1.15, which isn't bad as you won't use them too regularly and they'll last a long time. They do a brilliant job too. They are small square pads, which are made of steel wool. They have a light pink appearance once you start using them as they foam up and release lots of soap. You must first soak the pad in water before giving whatever you're cleaning a very good scrub. The soap will slowly release and it's pink in colour. There is an awful lot of soap in each pad so ... We have to thank our American friends for the Brillo pad, it seems that during the early 1900s the aluminium saucepan was making its debut, replacing the old cast iron pots. Cooking was then done on coal fired stoves hence the outside of the aluminium saucepans were blackened with the smoke and flame. No one likes messy looking pots and a chap who sold cookware and his brother in law who was a jeweller set to work to find a cleaning solution. They found that a pad of fine steel wool that was soaked with soap and jewellers rouge ( a substance used to remove fine scratches from glass) seemed to clean the blackened pots well and they set about introducing the ... I really like Brillo pads - my Mum always used them & I always rely on them as I know they'll do the tricky jobs around the house & garden. I've tried other cheaper steel wool pads but nothing I've tried works better than Brillo. They are so useful to have in stock. I have a very powerful steamer which does most cleaning jobs via the sheer force of the steam it shoots out & is great for most jobs. However it doesn't completely shift all the mess made inside the oven when you've cooked a roast dinner. Nor does it completely clean my roasting tins or meat racks. Brillo does! Our cat has her meals ... Read the complete review

I remember my mum having these in her 'under the sink' cupboard. They never had scourers in those days so everyone used them for scrubbing roast tins or burnt on milk in saucepans!!. It must have been awful on the hands but I remember them being very effective, but only usable once. I always have a box in my 'under the sink' cipboard as I find it removes rust stains brilliantly. I left some pliers on the white plastic garden table last summer and frost and rain caused them to rust and it left an unsightly mark of rust. I scrubbed and scrubbed but to no avail. Then my mum suggested Brillo pads. It scrubbed up lovely!!! Use window cleaner with the brillo ... Read the complete review
