Advantages: easy to use & fairly cheap - can often do jobs other products can't

Disadvantages: smell isn't terrific

I really like Brillo pads - my Mum always used them & I always rely on them as I know they'll do the tricky jobs around the house & garden.

I've tried other cheaper steel wool pads but nothing I've tried works better than Brillo.

They are so useful to have in stock.

I have a very powerful steamer which does most cleaning jobs via the sheer force of the steam it shoots out & is great for most jobs.

However it doesn't completely shift all the mess made inside the oven when you've cooked a roast dinner. Nor does it completely clean my roasting tins or meat racks.

Brillo does!

Our cat has her meals in the utility room but has a habit of splattering some of her jellied meat/fish meals on the skirting board (not sure how - I'll have to film her!) & again the steamer isn't very good at cleaning all this off.

Brillo does!

The poor BBQ gets a roasting & again out comes the brillo - it comes up a treat.

A box usually costs around 99p for 10 pads which are basically pads of wire wool impregnated with a pink soap. They're not particularly nice-smelling but not bad - a kind of a chemico-smell?

I always wear rubber gloves as they can be a bit prickly.

All you do is rub the desired area quite hard , then rinse or wipe clean.

Pans become shiny again - especially noticeable on the base where you've resigned to the fact they are meant to be brown & burned. Oven racks & roasting racks look like new & the insides of ovens look almost new!

Without having to use too much elbow-grease it looks like you've spent hours cleaning!

I wouldn't use these on non-stick pans, bakeware or non-stick ovens/ microwaves as they may scratch.

neither would I use them on glass for the same reason.

However, there are dozens of jobs Brillo are good for & once you have a box you may find them useful for all sorts of reasons - my motto 'if it still sticks, try Brillo'!

They may seem a bit expensive but you can quite a lot done with just 1 pad & you can fold or re-shape them to get maximum use out of each one.

I like simple ideas & SC Johnson household products have got a good one here.

summary
~
A rather old-fashioned but effective wire wool product which will often do a job other products cannot manage

recommended!

Summary: recommended wire wool with soap pads
