Advantages: Brilliant strong cleaning pad...

Disadvantages: Messy, smelly, go rusty after use...

I recently made a bacon butty and forget about it while playing my iPod, lol!

The fire alarm went off and the kitchen was smoking, oops! ;-p

I was told where the Brillos were under the sink and told to get on with the horrible job of cleaning the burnt on meat off the frying pan, yuk :(

Brillo pads are made by S C Johnson and are made out of wire wool compressed together with a dried pinky purple soap dried into them to help remove stubborn burnt on grease and charred marks on pans, etc.

Costing £1.14 from Wilkinson's so I'm told, you get ten pads in a plastic container with a sealed thin lid.

I was advised not to wet the pad through which seemed a bit stupid considering you are using hot water to get the mess off the pan, but apparently the soap soon disintegrates and loses its power, yeah right!

These little pads are about two inches squared and about half an inch thick so are ideal also for scrubbing oven racks and hob rings - but NOT enamel surfaces or else the surface gets scratched and damaged.

The pads smell unpleasant to me and worse in soapy water but they are really effective and strong.

You have to use quite a bit of muscle power to remove stubborn burnt on grime (like my poor bacon!) which can be hard work but metal comes up gleaming :)

The down side to these pads are how quickly they shrink; all little messy metal bits rub off the pads and end up in the sink, but that's a small price to pay to stop the moaning about the burnt frying pan!

Brillos are brilliant at cleaning, but if you get them too wet then they dry rusty which is a pity as some can be used again.

My mum loves recycling so keeps any decent ones in a clean empty yogurt pot for the next time she needs one (I am always ill when it comes to cleaning the cooker oddly enough).

Five stars form me, these are really cool at getting rid of charred remains - sorry I couldn't save my bacon though, lol! ;-p

Summary: Lucky for me we had some in, lol! ;)

I hate how these feel on your wet hands...I must have a sensory issue going on but I honestly think they feel revolting. That's my excuse for not using them anyway...along with the fact all my pots and pans are non-stick ;-)
