Advantages: It's very very soft.

Disadvantages: Expensive

When I was a child it was quite normal, especially in the then common outside ‘privies’, to find old newspapers cut into squares stuck on a nail - and I don’t mean to read. This was in the days when newsprint rubbed off on your hands rather easily – and so I suppose there must have been quite a few grubby bums around in those days too.

So in those bad old days that rather nasty hard crinkly Izal paper was luxurious for many people. (It was also useful for making that well known musical instrument – the comb and paper. Anyone else remember those?)

That was a long time ago and now luxury is luxurious indeed. Charmin toilet roll is seriously soft and is by far the nicest toilet tissue I have ever experienced. This is not just my opinion but a friend actually was brave, some might say ‘common’, enough to comment on my loo roll and said much the same.

This was a bit of a novelty as no one has ever come out of out our loo singing the praises of the toilet roll – how soft and squashy it was. Most people would not mention it of course but would probably think it all the same - so one reason I would recommend Charmin is to impress people. It would be ideal to use to impress mother-in-laws or girlfriends etc. I can’t see men being quite so discerning, however, and I'm not too sure they even bother to use toilet roll half the time anyway.

However, luxury is something you have to pay for and although in theory you need less sheets of Charmin than other brands it is certainly far more expensive per sheet than Andrex for example. Andrex has an average of 300 sheets per roll while Charmin only has 192 and the price is about the same. According to one of the other opinions there might also be a bit of a problem with Charmin for those with older plumbing systems (I’m not talking personally here) which might prove to be expensive too. Price is not a serious concern to me and I am quite
happy to pay a bit more to pamper my special places.

One thing that does surprise me a bit is the advertising of Charmin. They seem to have pitched the advertising to be similar to Andrex but with cuddly cute bears instead of puppies. But apart from the fact that nothing could ever compete with those adorable Andrex puppies I think such hedonistic bog roll deserves a slightly more upmarket treatment or at least a character like Margot from ‘The Good Life’ or Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced Bouquet) doing her thing. I’m not too sure I like the name of it either but I do like the product.

Economy bog roll for me LOL! Much as I liked the Charmin double roll when it was practically being given away by the local supermarket. I object to paying large sums of money for something that is only going down the loo however soft it is!
