Advantages: Does what it says on the bottle

~ ~ Well, not really. In fact, to be honest, the complete opposite, as I shower every morning, and sometimes again in the evening if I have had a hot, sticky day sat behind the wheel of my taxi in the totally crazy Dublin traffic. I simply can’t face the day until I’ve showered in the morning, and if for any reason I miss my ablutions, then I feel totally out of sorts for the rest of the day. ~ ~ But this obsession with always feeling clean also has its downside. While the mad cabbie might be spotless in every regard, the same couldn’t be said for his shower and bathroom, and in particular for the glass shower screen and wall tiles around the bath. (I have an overhead shower unit in the bath) Between all the sweat, muck, and grime that I wash off daily, and with the inevitable build up of limescale from the tap water, the bath, tiles, and shower screen often look like they’ve been used by a battalion of soldiers just back from a five day field exercise in the peat bogs of Ireland. ~ ~ I have a very understanding better half, who administers to the every need of her beloved husband with a smile. (well, most of the time!) But she draws the line at cleaning out the bathroom after me, as well as one or two other little things that we won’t go into here. (Don’t bother asking) So cleaning the shower area is down to me, and up until recently it’s a job that I absolutely hated. I don’t know about your shower, but no matter how much elbow grease and effort I seemed to put into the task, I could never seem to get the sparkling results that ‘herself’ demanded. I’d tried all sorts of cleaning materials, but no matter what, the stubborn stains and streaks seemed destined to be a permanent feature. That is, until I discovered this new stuff (well, new to me) called Cif Bath and Shower. In fact, I can’t even take credit for that, to be totally honest. It was
my wee 10-year-old daughter who threw it into the basket during our weekly shop at the local supermarket. ~ ~ “Cif” is the new name for an old favourite called “Jif”, and its manufactured by Lever Brothers, who have factories in England and here in my home city of Dublin. Here’s what the ‘blurb’ says on the trigger action bottle. “Cif Bath and Shower, with its powerful trigger action, easily removes grime, soapscum, limescale, and watermarks. No rubbing required. Leaves your bath clean and smooth, and taps, tiles and showers reflecting a brilliant shine” My, my, tell me more. Right you are then. It’s easy to use. Simply spray it on, leave the chemicals to work their magic for a minute or so, and then rinse it off. If you have stubborn limescale they recommend that you repeat the application. ~ ~ So does it work? You bet your life it does, although not quite in the spray on and rinse off fashion that Lever Brothers claim. I was totally astounded at the difference the first time I used this product. Followed the instructions to the letter, and the difference was truly remarkable, although I had to apply a modicum of the old elbow grease to the glass shower curtain in order to get the required results. Now that I’ve got rid of the old build up of stains and streaks, it seems to work even better. Once every couple of days, I spray it on, give it a swift once over with a cloth, and rinse it off. Voila. A bath and shower area that even herself admits is the cleanest she’s ever seen it. And she’s hard to please, believe me! ~ ~ For those of you who are interested here’s what they say it contains, although it’s all Double Dutch to this fella. Antonic Surfactants, Nontonic Surfactants and preservative, as well as ‘other ingredients’ that they don’t specify. It has a couple of fairly dire warnings on
the bottle as well. Don’t get it near your eyes, don’t use it if you have damaged or sensitive skin without a pair of rubber gloves, and wash and rinse your hands thoroughly after use. (Common sense really) Also, don’t mix it with other chemical products. I think this has something to do with a possible chemical reaction that can produce ammonia gas! ~ ~ And the cost? £2.69 (Irish Punts) for a 500ml bottle. I’ve had it for over two weeks now, and the bottle is hardly used. Highly recommended by the mad cabbie
