Advantages: cleans well, not a lot of elbow grease required

Disadvantages: cannot be used on certain ovens

The oven was looking a little neglected and I was drawn to this bottle for two reasons. First it is Cif - and I have always found their products extremely reliable, and secondly - the words fume-free on the label - sometimes using a harsh oven cleaner can leave the eyes watering somewhat in amongst all the chemicals from sprays so this sounds a good idea.

Currently costing £3.99 for 500ml in Tesco I don't feel this is a bad price if it works as it is quite a significant size and will last for a fair amount of oven cleans. The bright green bottle has a picture of a sparkling oven on it and I was hoping my oven may be close to this when finished.

For the chemists and curious the bottle states it contains amongst other ingedients 5% anionic surfactants, perfume, limonene and geranoil. Despite being fume free it does warn that this products is irritating to the eyes and skin and the vapour should not be breathed in. I always make sure my kitchen windows are open to help ventilate and pop on those sexy marigolds!!

How to use

You need to pull down the safety clasp under the trigger and for the first time you use it, squeeze the trigger to remove the plastic seal. Always use on a cold oven and make sure the part you are cleaning is completely covered in spray. The amount of time to leave it varies depending on how greasy and gunky the oven is - For the worst areas you will need to leave for an hour, but less badly soiled areas can be worked on after around half an hour.

After leaving it for the right time I went to my oven, opened the door, and prepared for the usual scrubbing. I am actually really impressed with this - my cloth slid over the oven floor removing lots of disgusting grease ( and I thought I was houseproud !). Very little effort was needed before revealing a nice clean oven. It did remove all the grime really easily and I didn't need to rinse as often as I did with my previous cleaner.

Fume-free?

This isn't as irritating as some but I cannot say I would want to breath it in, or get any on my skin because it is an abraisive oven cleaner at the end of the day - so ventilation is essential. It cleaned up my glass doors nicely and considering the husband even commented on how clean it looked I feel I can definately reccomend this as a cleaning product that does what it says it will!

Do not...........

The back of the bottle clearly states you should not use this spray on self cleaning ovens or aluminium, copper or brass marble, painted wood or appliance lettering. You also need to avoid getting it on the oven trim, pilot light or heating and fan elements - you have been warned....

Summary: create an oven to be proud oven
