Advantages: disposable, pets marks removed
Disadvantages: expensive, smears
Anything to make housework easier is worth a try. I don’t know whether it was the TV adverts or the opinions on here but I knew I had to get a packet of Cif glass and window wipes. I am not a fan of cleaning windows, I tend to use a chamois cloth. Getting up the ladder with a chamois the window spray and some kitchen paper to remove smears is a performance I would rather not do. So the thought of a handy wipe which does the job in a jif (or is that cif) appealed to me. I bought my Cif wipes at Tesco’s. The blue plastic resealable packet shows drawings of gleaming products that have obviously had the Cif treatment. Why they have also put fluffy clouds all over the packaging I am not too sure – perhaps that’s the view I will get out of my windows after using Cif? But to be fair the overall look of the product is a good one. £1.59 buys you 20 Extra Large wipes for quick, easy, sparkling results. £1.59 and 20 were the only facts in that sentence I found to be true. Extra Large is not a description I would give these wipes - twice the size of my hand maybe. Quick? Not really, the wipes are thin and flimsy, made from a fibrous material. To gain any real strength the wipes needed to be folded and in doing so your coverage was lost. You find yourselves re folding in trying to use the wipe more effectively. The alcohol solution, which is soaked into the wipes, seems to evaporate quite quickly, giving the wipe a short life. As for the sparkling results? I didn’t find the results sparkling I did find smears which needed wiping off. For general use around the house cleaning window, mirrors and glass I think it is an expensive product that does not do a better job than a chamois and some window spray. On the other hand if you have pets or children and want to quickly wipe away isolated areas then Cif has a place under your sink. I just feel it is too expensive to use around the house for window cleaning. The w
ipes are just too thin and 20 wipes is not enough to do my house windows inside let alone outside. The smearing is also a big disappointment.

- 06/08/01 I got them free too. They sent me an extra double pack as they took so long sending it. Yes they do smear, but it saves me squirting windolene at intervals onto a kitchen towel. :) |

- 17/06/01 I have to admit these were pretty useless, and I didn't buy them to clean windows, just to wipe finger prints off the glass panelled doors.
Hopeless! They really were!
