Advantages: De greasing spray cleaner.
Disadvantages: Awful smell, caused trouible breathing.
New Year resolutions, do you make them? I don't but if I decided to, it would be to clean up a mess in the Microwave when I make it and never leave until later! Having made the most horrendous mess in my Microwave oven the other evening when I was melting some margarine for a topping on a chicken and rice dish, I realised I had forgotten to go back and clean it, so I needed to do some work before I could start the jacket potatoes for lunch. The margarine had covered every surface and had set thoroughly, I had a little of my Cif power cream spray left, so sprayed some and started to wipe. No joy it wasn't doing too well. Flash! No not Flash cleaning liquid, but I suddenly had a thought to heat up the microwave a little. I put in a cup of water and switched on for a minute, the oven didn't blow up fortunately, but the steam helped soften the margarine and with a hot cloth I managed to wipe the oven clean.
The oven was soon gleaming and I could continue with my cooking, so I was really impressed as this was probably the worst challenge I had in cleaning.
I did say I only had a little left so you will have realised I have been using this for a while. I always used to use Jif cream cleaner, as this was recommended for my previous oven, way back in the early 1970's. Jif changed its name to Cif in 2001, so although I still sometimes use the cream cleaner I have tried various spray cleaners as these are easier to rinse clean.
It is in an unusual shaped clear bottle, rounded lower half with a narrow neck with raised bits to make it easy to hold and has a spray nozzle in green plastic. The label has the Cif logo in white, green and red, and says power cream, Kitchen and this has a Lemon fragrance. There is a star background, giving the "POW" effect!
It is a really bright yellow fluorescent thin liquid, and it is suggested that it is sprayed onto the surface and left for a few minutes, then wiped off with a damp cloth. There are some warnings that you should not use on linoleum and avoid long contact on marble and test before use on painted surfaces.
On the back of the bottle it tells me that Cif Power cream kitchen has tough cleaning action that combines the power of Cif cream boosted with an active degreasing formula. It effectively removes sticky mess, tough grease, oven baked food and leaves your kitchen spotlessly clean.
I have previously mostly used it to clean the hob, especially when we've had a stir fry or griddled meat and olive oil has been spitting all over, a quick spray and after a few minutes it wipes clean. I have sprayed the tiles at the back of the hob, but was disappointed as it seems to stain the grouting and that has gone quite yellowy now. A quick spray in the oven takes care of the everyday spills, but I still give the oven a clean with a different special cleaner. I have used it on the work surfaces too to clean up coffee spills and general mess and it works quite well.
Hand care - rinse hands after use, or I would suggest using rubber gloves if you do suffer with skin conditions. Plus if you are wearing nail varnish it seems to make it disappear at the tips! It is an Irritant and there are instructions regarding this on the bottle.
Cost - £2.33 for a 750mls bottle. I have seen a smaller bottle but none in Tesco today when I looked!
Do I like it? Well yes and no. It certainly cleaned the Microwave oven today and it cleans the cooker, but I was disappointed with the tiles and when I sprayed quite a lot doing the work surfaces, although it didn't affect me, it did make my husband cough when he came into the kitchen and have problems breathing, almost like an asthma attack, although he doesn't have asthma. The fragrance was meant to be lemon, but it is very much a chemical smell and quite strong, it says to use in a ventilated room which I was doing. So I have bought another product by Cif to try when this bottle is finished, perhaps another review coming up shortly, and perhaps my husband will be able to use this new product, no reason to disappear when a mess needs cleaning up!
Summary: Spray power cream cleaner by Cif.
