Advantages: actually works

Disadvantages: pricey

The one job I really hate other than cleaning the bathroom is cleaning the kitchen. For this reason, and I realise I am lucky, my partner does most of the deep cleaning in the kitchen.
As he is wonderful enough to take on this task, as the most I do is the cooking to make everything a mess and a quick wipe over of surfaces, he insists on being able to use what he wants to do his cleaning chores. I cannot refuse this so he always has a bottle of Cilit Bang in the cupboard.

I was unfortunate enough to be left with the kitchen cleaning task a couple of days ago, so I reluctantly got the Cilit Bang from the cupboard and set to work.
Now I'm sure we've all seen the adverts boasting about what Cilit Bang can actually do. It seems to easy to use this product I was hoping it would be able to clean the kitchen all by itself, but sadly that wasn't the case, it did require some input by me.

The bottle of Cilit Bang is quite modern and funky, using bright neon colours for the trigger spray to differentiate between the products it sells. The Grime and Lime shows off a vibrant orange spray. Mixed with the purple plastic of the bottle it does look quite attractive for a cleaning product.
Holding a standard trigger spray nozzle on the top, it has an easy grip to be able to hold the otherwise flat bottle. There are no easy grip moulded shapes to the bottle so it's a nice job that the trigger spray sits comfortable in your hands.

Now thankfully before I used it I did read the bottle to make sure I could use it on all my surfaces. I found out that my partner failed to tell me this can't be used on hot surfaces so my hob was out of the equation straight away. I did learn why he loves it so much and this is because it works so well (apparently) on taps and sinks. This would be why he uses it in the bathroom then instead of my cheaper cleaner when I actually see him cleaning the bathroom.
I would suggest this product is really more suitable for bathrooms than it is kitchens, but if you choose to use it on your sinks then you will get some sparkly results.

To use the product, the bottle tells you to spray the areas and leave for 30 seconds before wiping off.
Anyone that has seen the adverts will see the supposedly amazing results you can get from using on items such as your shower screen and all the nasty bath scum left around your bath.
Anyone that lets their bath get into such a state as is on the adverts deserves something different than a bottle of Cilit Bang I can tell you!

Intrigued as I was, the sink was liberally sprayed and left for the allotted time. I could see the product bubbling slightly, not quite fizzing but something was definitely going on in there.
My sink never quite sparkles but it always gets a little area where the dirt is more stubborn, right on the draining board where the water settle just before it drips back into the sink. This area is a bone of contention with me so I was secretly pleased when I had to clean the kitchen as I could tackle this area.

After my time slot was up, I wiped away just like the advert suggested. I could see a slight improvement on the grime, but in no way was the product working as advertised. When do they though to be honest. I tried again and scrubbed a bit harder this time. This proved to be better and now I could see some shiny areas through the bubbles. I liked the fact there weren't too many bubble hiding in this mixture, and it didn't clog my sponge up too much.
My stubborn area still wasn't too clean though which was slightly disappointing, but maybe that's why that area was never as clean as I liked it.
I wasn't going to give up though so I re sprayed a bit more and left for a bit longer. I was aware not to leave it too long though as I didn't want the product to start eating through my draining board.

Some scrubbing and a bit of will power later and my whole draining board was sparkling more that I had seem it do in a long while. I was impressed with the product but a little disappointed that I had to work harder than the advertising suggested to achieve the results I wanted.
My partner commented on how clean the area was later that day but I was quick not to make any smart remark back as I knew he would insist I cleaned the sink all the time in the future.

Overall I was pleased with the result I got from Cilit Bang, and I would happily use again. I may even try it in my bathroom when the will takes me.
It's a shame it doesn't live up to the advertising, and it's a shame it's at the more expensive end of the market at just over £3 for a bottle, but to get the results you want I think it's worth it.
I didn't find I needed to use an awful lot to get my sink sparkly, and I liked the fact the product didn't foam up too much so for this reason I am happy to pay the price for the product to sit in my cupboard for a few months before it gets used up.

Summary: a good degreaser

After trying Cillit bang when it first appeared, I was really disappointed with it and haven't bought it since.... Great review :)

I agree, no matter how much they tell us it's leave and wipe they all still need a degree of scrubbing. I haven't tried this yet but intend to.
