Advantages: Cuts through limescale on ceramics

Disadvantages: Additional elbow grease needed

As anyone who has a house to clean will know, limescale has to be one of the toughest things to remove. Sinks, taps, baths, showers, you name it, anywhere water goes near, so does limescale.

After seeing those incrediby annoying adverts on TV, I thought it wouldn't hurt to try this, as it was claiming to be able to dissolve my problematic limescale in no time at all. I picked this up from Asda, I forget how much it was at the time however it now retails there at £2.20 for 750ml. It's sold in a nice bright purple bottle with a trigger spray and an explosive looking design on the label.

When I next did my household clean and came to do the kitchen sink (stainless steel so a nightmare for limescale and water marks) I brought this out of the cupboard and read the instructions. It recommends you test this on a small hidden area before use but I admit I couldn't be bothered to do this, so I sprayed it onto the affected areas and waited for a minute, as instructed before wiping off and rinsing thoroughly with clean water. The smell of this is very potent and chemically so I don't recommend getting too close and inhaling any of the fumes!

I must admit, the limescale on my kitchen sink took a little scrubbing before it came completely clean, it didn't just dissolve and wipe away as the adverts lead you to believe. Same goes for my taps and plastic shower doors, I had to scrub them quite hard with this before they were sparkling again.

My ceramics however were another story, the sink and shower tray came clean very easily with this so it seems that some surfaces are better suited to this than others.

This is better than just using a normal bleach spray however it doesn't cut through the grime on some surfaces as well as others. I will however continue to buy this for getting rid of my limescale, even though I have to add a bit of good old elbow grease!

Summary: Works better on some surfaces than others.
