Dylon Colour Catcher
Advantages: prevents dye from running. can wash mixed coloured ;loads.
Disadvantages: none for me
With 2 boys in the house I have a fair amount of laundry. However I do not al;ways have enough of one colour to make up a full load, especially where dark and red colours are concerned. I first came across colour catcher sheets a few years ago when I saw a friend using them. The idea is that using colour catcher can allow you to mix colours without fear of ruining your cloths.
Colour catcher sheets come in a flat cardboard box and are available is several size packs including 12,24 or 40 sheets. I have just purchases a 24 pack from Tesco and paid £2 of offer. Colour catcher is made by Dylon, the makers of several really useful laundry products. To use simply place a sheet at the back of the washing machine drum before adding your laundry and then add detergent as usual. The sheets contain no chemical and the manufactures say * the sheet acts like a magnet, trapping loose dye and dirt during the wash*. After the wash the sheet can be recycled.
I really like these clever little sheets as they save me time sorting washing and mean I can make up a load of different colours without any fear of colour run ruining my cloths. I still wash white clothing separately as the sheets are not really recommend for whites. It is also recommended that you wash any new coloured clothing separately for at least the first 5 or 6 washes. The sheets are particularly good when washing red or dark colours . After the wash you can see the discarded dye on the sheet. The sheets are also suitable for hand washing, although I have not tried them with a hand wash.
I have used the sheets at temperatures from 30 degrees up to 60 degrees and they have always performed well. They not only prevent dye from running, but will also help keep your cloths looking brightly as even slight amounts of loose dye can make cloths look grubby.
Overall I think these little sheets are excellent.
