Advantages: smells lovely, smell stays on clothes
Disadvantages: expensive
I used to use fabric softener with every wash, but about six months ago I was trying to decide where I could cut back in order to save some money, and decided I didn't need fabric conditioner - especially as I was using fragranced washing powder. I recently received some samples of the new Comfort fabric softeners - one of which is the Tropical Burst fragrance, so I have used it on my last few washes.
~About the Product~
This fabric softener is a vibrant orange in colour and is concentrated, meaning you need to use less in every wash. As you may have seen from rival brand Lenor's adverts, concentrated fabric softeners are also greener as they come in smaller bottles, therefore less air-polluting lorries are needed to transport them to the shops. The Tropical Burst fragrance is a mix of peach and mango, with a hint of coconut. It has 'Fresh Release Technology' which Comfort say works by infusing tiny beads of fragrance into your clothes. This means that each time you move, your clothes release 'a burst of freshness'.
~Packaging~
My samples came as sachets, but if you buy it, it comes in a clear plastic bottle, featuring a picture of a woman (annoyingly gorgeous of course!), laughing and she seems to be surrounded by what looks like fruit and leaves!
~Using it~
To use, you simply pour a capful of the liquid into the conditioner compartment of your washing machine. When I poured this out, I thought it looked a bit thin and watery, especially for a concentrated liquid, as ages ago when I used to use Comfort Pure Concentrate, I seem to remember it being a bit thicker.
As soon as you pour it out you can smell the lovely fruity fragrance, although I didn't think it was particularly strong. Even though it states that this is peach and mango with a hint of coconut, I actually thought the coconut was the most dominant fragrance.
~Results~
As soon as I opened my washing machine drawer, I could smell the fragrance and it seemed a lot stronger than it had when I put it in the drawer. As it was raining, I hung my clothes on an airer in the living room to dry and every time I walked past the fragrance was really noticeable and it was almost acted like an air freshener.
Once my clothes had dried, they felt soft and I could still smell the sweet coconut scent on them. As for their 'bursts of freshness' claim, I must admit I could smell this on my clothes when wearing them, however this was mostly when I put my arm near to my face, rather than the fragrance being released as I moved.
~Price~
Obviously the price will vary depending on where you shop. Wilkinsons are currently selling this for £1.38 for the 750ml bottle and £2.65 for the 1.5l bottle.
~Overall Opinion~
I was quite impressed with this, it had a lovely smell, and was a lot more noticeable on my clothes than previous fabric conditioners I have used, and would say it is the nicest one I have used so far. Because of the price, I am not sure I will go back to using fabric softener full time, but I might buy a bottle of this to use now and again. I am looking forward to using my sample of Comfort tropical's other fragrance 'tempting nature', and just hope it's as good as this one.
