Advantages: Reasonably priced, effective, delicately fragranced

Disadvantages: Sometimes makes the dispenser drawer grimy

Comfort is my favourite make of conditioner and has been since fabric conditioners were first introduced back in the 1970s. Until then, we only used soap powder and were a bit suspicious of this new-fangled conditioner stuff. However, having found how much easier it is to iron fabrics that have been 'conditioned',w we were soon hooked.

Comfort Pure, made by Unilever and recommended by Persil, is my favourite one of all because it has such a clean delicate fragrance. I pay around £1.75 for the 2 litre container in my local supermarket, the Co-op.

The label on the bottle states that it is 'Hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested' which means that it is suitable for delicate sensitive skins, making it ideal for the whole family.

I must confess to not using as much as the label instructs because I think it is too extravagant; I get the results I want using just half the dose. It still delicately scents the clothes and makes ironing so much easier.

I use it in my washing machine, pouring it into the conditioner part of the soap dispenser drawer, and also for hand-washing clothes, but here you should remember to wear rubber gloves to protect the skin on the hands.

Comfort Pure rinses cleanly away and just leaves clothes with that 'line-dried' fragrance whether you have actually dried it outside or in the tumble drier. It also eliminates static, too.

My only gripe is that it can sometimes cause the soap dispenser drawer to become grimy but a quick wash using either white vinegar or soda crystals in the drawer soon cleans it up.

Summary: Good value for money
