Advantages: Smells gorgeous, long lasting smell, helps iron cotton
Disadvantages: It doesn't do the ironing for me.
I am not usually the type of person who invests in unnecessary household cleaning products (If truth be told I don't invest a lot of time into household chores either but ssshhh!)
I particularly hate Ironing. I leave clothes that are freshly washed in a pile in the cupboard until there's nothing left hanging in the wardrobes. I have tried just putting the stuff away planning on ironing it as and when it's needed, but I'm not the most organised of people on a morning, and opening drawers to find a heap of crumpled clothes depresses me. I have tried not ironing at all, but probably a trait picked up from my OCD inflicted Grandmother and happy to housework Mother, this also isn't an option (although I draw the line at ironing socks, knickers and tea towels!)
So once a week I can be found swearing under my breath, banging the ironing board upright and spending 2 hours chucking a steaming iron across piles of clothing resentfully. Thus, anything that claims to make this most tedious of job's easier was bound to make it's way into my shopping basket sooner or later.
~ So What Is Comfort Vaporess? ~
Comfort Vaporess, quite simply is scented water you put in your iron. It claims on the bottle that it will make ironing easier as it contains fibre moisturisers that help the steam smooth away creases. It also claims to infuse your clothing with long lasting freshness and protect your iron from limescale, helping to prolong it's life.
It is avaible in 2 varieties, original and lilly and riceflower. I am reviewing the latter. I purchase a 1 litre size bottle which lasts me around 3 weeks and cost's between £1-£2 depending where you buy, and if it's on offer.
~ Using The Product ~
Using this ironing water couldn't be simpler. The bottle containing the liquid comes with a handy little nossle making pouring the water into the iron very easy.
As soon as you unscrew the cap, you can smell this. It is very strong in the bottle, however when ironing the scent becomes more subtle and is delicious. Imagine walking through an orchid of blossoms, after rain on a very hot day. That's what it reminds me of.
But does it make ironing any easier? Marginally, I would say yes it does. Particularly for cotton items such as bedding, that can be a pain to iron. The iron does seem to glide more freely over the material.
The pleasure of using this product comes from the smell while ironing. Ok I don't now skip with joy to do this mundane chore, but it does make it a slightly more pleasant experience. The scented steam also makes the room your ironing in smell nice, I could smell it the morning after.
And the smell really does cling to the fabrics. Theres nothing quite like climbing into a bed with freshly laundered sheets, and the smell definitely enhances that experience.
My son, being 12 has asked me not to use it on his clothing. Doesn't match the image you see. I do like to use it on my daughters school uniform. Not only because I like her going to school smelling cleaned and cared for, but, and this is slightly sentimental and sickly!, I have childhood memories of being comforted by my mum's laundry product smell's when away from home, and hope that this might do the same for her. Told you it was soppy! For the purpose of this review, I sniffed my daughters 2 day worn uniform before I packed her off to nursary this afternoon, and I could still smell the vaporesse.
~ Conclusion ~
While Vaporesse doesn't solve the problem of having to iron, it does make it a slightly more pleasurable and easier experience.
It smells divine, and for me makes it worth buying. And the scent really is held by fabrics. Think of it as a little aromatherapy as you iron.
It's not cheap, considering you can put water from your tap in instead, but I don't use it for everything, mainly saving it for bedding and my daughters clothing.
Would I recommend it. YES! I have tried cheaper, own brand makes and they are very poor altenatives which I wouldn't bother with. I love Comfort Vaporesse lilly and riceflower and will continue to buy it.
Summary: Anything that's makes ironing easier is a hit with me!
