Advantages: A good finishing touch to laundry.
Disadvantages: It would work out expensive for family use.
Credit where credit is due and Unilever have added a revolutionary if not indulgent product to their already gigantic range of laundry products. But Comfort Vaporesse is one of those products that is almost certainly classed as a luxury and it would be hard to see that anyone who churns their way through umpteen loads of washing for a large family could or would even contemplate sticking this one into their shopping trolley.
There are only the two of us and it was on the shelves for a considerable time before I decided to give it a whirl.
To my knowledge there are three types of Comfort Vaporesse, that is Vaporesse Blue, Vaporesse Natural Olives and the Vaporesse Lily and Riceflower. I tried the Natural Olives and second time around I bought the lily and Rice flower and that was a winner for me. Yet again I have to give all credit to Unilever for producing the ironing water at a reasonable 86p a litre.
I have taken a look around most of the supermarkets and discounts stores and that seems to be the average price.
The Comfort Vaporesse ironing water is nothing at all to look at, it is presented in a clear plastic bottle and has the familiar Comfort labelling.
Each of the fragrances has a different coloured top to signify which one you are buying.
The bottle has a screw top and once that is removed then inside there sits a pouring spout which is ideal as you can aim the Vaporesse ironing water directly into the iron without any spillage.
The Comfort Lily and Riceflower is the sweeter smelling out of the three varieties and my favourite. To define the fragrance is difficult but if I say that it is a sweet floral I am sure that you will get the gist.
The Comfort Vaporesse is easy to pour into your steam iron and once the iron starts to heat up the sweet scent starts to fill the air. As well as adding perfume to your ironing Vaporesse will also help to prevent the lime scale building up and clogging your iron which is a boon.
Vaporesse is in reality a perfumed water and if you use the washing powders that are filled with extra fragrance and then you use a good fabric softener then it may be a bit over the top to bring yet another fragrance into the equation but I really love this one for the bedding.
In my experience it is the fabric softener that makes for easier ironing and the Comfort Vaporesse that just adds the finishing touch. The sheets and pillowcases smell gorgeous once they have been ironed and as they are put away in the drawer or the Ottoman that smell lingers on and fills the draw with fragrance.
If you were having anyone to stay it would be a lovely touch to press their bedding using Vaporesse, I wonder if any of the up market hotels use it !
My Comfort Vaporesse only comes out now and again, I do iron the soft feminine items using it and the bedding. I would never waste the costly ironing water on my old tea towels !
The one litre bottle of Vaporesse lasts me a couple of weeks and that is just ironing selected items for the two of us. I find that by using it at that rate I can afford to spoil myself.
As I said earlier, all credit to Unilever but Comfort vaporesse may well be one of those laundry products that are not family friendly, imagine refilling the steam iron as you plough through a mountain of school uniforms, a bottle would be swallowed up in a couple of ironing sessions.
Just the two of you ? Well then go and treat yourself to a bottle.
Summary: One for the sheets and pillowcases.
