Advantages: Helps keep the limescale at bay
Disadvantages: price
I don't actually mind ironing; I find it a bit relaxing (weird I know!) but it is a standing joke in my house that ironing doesn't like me. The problem is I go through irons like nobody's business; they just seem to like blowing up when I am using them! It has got to the point where I usually have 2 irons one to use and one on standby!
My other half has got used to ignoring the fact I have bought another new iron until about 4 weeks ago, after I had my foot operation I was told that I had to rest and not do anything (that was sooo hard!) I must admit he did cope quite well until it came to the ironing and put it off as long as possible but eventually our monsters refused to go to school unless dad ironed their clothes and didn't send them to school looking like scarecrows!
He then asked me why the iron has all this white hard stuff coming out of it, now I always did use filtered water in my steam iron as normal tap water caused the lime scale build up to be very bad but I have noticed that even with filtered water it still does build up. So the other half descaled the iron with lots of moaning under his breath! He then decided that drastic action was needed and on a shopping trip he came back with this product, so was this the answer?
PRODUCT STATEMENT
Comfort vaporesse is a perfumed ironing water that makes ironing easier, it contains fibre moisturisers that help the steam to smooth away creases, infuses your clothes with a long lasting freshness and protects your iron from limescale and can help prolong the life of your iron.
PACKAGING
It comes in a 1L clear plastic bottle, depending on which fragrance you buy is the colour of the lid and the label. The one I am currently using is Lily & riceflower so mine is a dark pink, you unscrew the lid to find a spout to pour into your iron and on the front is a little picture to show you where to pour it (well dah!) The liquid itself looks just like water and putting a little bit on my hand it dries quite quickly and leaves my hand feeling soft.
USING
Ok so after the 2 weeks were up I was given the go ahead to start doing little jobs around the house and I found that ironing was one that the other half couldn't wait to get rid of! Anyway I can do it sitting down, so I was reminded to use this product.
Pouring the liquid into the iron does take a bit of patience because if you pour it to fast it will just not go in and will spill all down the iron, I find tilting the iron upwards makes it a bit easier. The scent is very nice and light and once the steam gets going it smells even better, as for the actual ironing I have noticed a small difference with regards the creases but not a huge amount, the iron does seem to glide a bit easier but I still have to use a lot of steam to get out the majority of creases. So the most important bit for me the limescale, well I can report that my iron is looking in much better shape and I haven't seen any white bits coming out in the 4 weeks since using this product although there was a couple of bits of limescale that I poked out of the bottom steam holes but nowhere near as bad. As yet I haven't had any effects on our skin through using this product and my youngest monster does have very sensitive skin, I must admit that the scent doesn't last that long on the clothes but they do smell fresh when putting on after ironing. 1 bottle seems to last me about a week, which shows you how much ironing, I have to do!
The directions do state that this product shouldn't be diluted and you must not pour any unused liquid back into the bottle.
It is not recommended for steam generator irons.

Yes I will, I did do a test and stopped using this for a week and found that the limescale did start to get worse again, I do feel that it is a bit pricey for what it is but I do stock up when its on special offer and if it prolongs the life of my iron and stops me from having to pay out for new ones then lets be honest its got to be worth it!

- 09/11/07 I used to use this, I didn't realise that it reduced limescale, I bought yet another new iron today, the 3rd this year. So I'll get some Fabreze tomorrow to see if it helps prolong it. :-) |
