Advantages: Makes ironing easier, Gives a nice pong through the house
Disadvantages: Smells a little strong for the menfolk
I have recently bought a new steam iron as my last iron had long since given up the ghost of letting any fluid pass through its orifices. The reason for this is limescale ? ah, that old chestnut! Here in the southeast corner, we don?t have mains water, we have diluted chalk running through our taps and so we do not experience the wonderful bubbles and lather that our neighbours tell us of, on Dooyoo. We have to keep the makers of Calgon and Limelite in business, in order to keep the plumbers at bay. To offer encouragement to this new member of my household, I promised to love, honour and cherish him as long as he promised to help me with the housework, well, ironing at least. To coax him into the house I made wild promises to provide plenty of comfort and drink and surround him with wonderful perfume so that he would provide optimum perfomance. So far reader, my flirtations have worked, and he performs well everyday. So how have I managed to keep him so happy. Comfort Vaporesse, with Passion Flower and Ylang Ylang, that?s how. I started with a version from Sainsbury?s which had a very inviting modern bottle (and was 99p per 1L) but it really did smell very strange when used. Now, I have moved onto the Comfort version (1.19 per 1L) and it smells much better, although a little too strong. The bottle recommends that you DO NOT dilute it, but personally I can?t see why not other than to get you to buy more bottles. I use the water out of the condenser of my tumble dryer to dilute it, as I am sure there is no lime scale in it. However, you can buy special unscented water from the supermarket if you prefer. The scent in Vaporesse is not in the least unpleasant although it may be considered a little strong and possibly a tad sickly sweet, although, once on the clothes it dissipates well. It is the normal fabric conditioner type pong with an extra something on top. The bottle is clear, with a cornflower coloured lid w
hich has a special spout for ease of pouring. The instructions point out that you really must rinse your eyes with water if you are clumsy and splash some of the product into them. It also advises to keep out of children?s reach and this is a fair point because the bottle really does look inviting, but doesn?t have a child-proof lid on it. This ironing water is not recommended for those posh steam generator irons either. The warning also extends to telling you to beware of airborne perfume, so if you have asthma or other rhinitis type allergy, you are likely to wheeze or sneeze ? be warned! This product can be bought in all good supermarkets, and is made by Lever Faberge. I has probably been tested on animals which is the law, and they make no mention of it in any case. The main part of the bottle is recyclable but I don?t think the lid is. Customer Care Line : 0800 776647 So far, my iron and I are having a wonderful relationship. He glides over my ironing board with a flourish and I have not been disappointed with the results. My only caution is that I have sensitive skin, so am wary of using the Comfort Vaporesse on items that are worn close to my skin, but for the rest of the family, they are pleased to be actually wearing clothes that smell nice from the ironing pile rather than smelling of nothing.
