Crown Solo one coat Gloss. Our huge family have just moved into a huge house, now this house is old and will need loads of tender loving care, with that in mind you will probably find quite a few opinions on various DIY products over the coming months. The first room we are decorating is our 20 month old girl’s room, she is “Tweenies mad” so we are giving her a tweenies bedroom, with all bold primary colours. The Woodwork I wanted red and looked at the various colours and paints available. I chose a bright red from the Crown solo one coat gloss range the colour being “scooter red”. The first thing I noticed is that Crown give this paint a guarantee that if it does not cover in one coat they give you your money back. This being a huge house anything that saves us decorating time can only be good. They do say that if you follow the instructions on the can and it fails to cover in one coat then they will refund the cost of the paint. To be honest my preparation did not follow the instructions, but even so the results are impressive. The consistency of the paint is great and I found it really good to work with. Unlike some so called one coat paints that have the consistency of putty and need a trowel to apply them, this paint was just right, thick enough to cover but flowed well of the brush. My other half was impressed with the speed I was able to cover the woodwork with this paint, he looked down and I was in another part of the room before he knew it. Bless him he seems to enjoy doing the ceilings, and as this is an old house they are high ceilings. I found that this paint although not odour free was not overpowering and it did not leave me feeling sick or with a headache. The paint dried overnight and was not tacky to the touch. It gave a really glossy, smooth finish and the colour on the can was the colour we ended up with. I bought this paint from B & Q and paid £8.48 for a 750ml can. I think that
the results achieved really do make this paint good value for money and I will be using this product again. They have a great range of colours so it looks like our house will be getting the Crown treatment on a regular basis over the coming months.

- 05/03/02 Thanks for the tip but it comes a bit late as I've just finished painting my bathroom - which took 3 coats.
Btw, am I the only person who is having trouble rating at the moment? |
