Advantages: Works well. Concentrated so lasts longer.
Disadvantages: Poor, mild chemical fragrance.
Daisy dish washing up liquid is available to purchase in Tesco supermarkets as part of their discount brand range. Even prior to the recession I always opted for the cheapest washing up liquid available and my usual brand is Asda's Smartprice which is available for around 34p as non-concentrated liquid. I bought a 500ml sized bottle of Daisy concentrated liquid for 67p and it was the cheapest in store.
Daisy comes in a clear recyclable bottle with a removable flip-lid cap. There is a label on the back of the bottle which details the ingredients of the formula in addition to usage instructions and health warnings. These include advice on rinsing hands after use, not using this product with sensitive skin and the fact that this liquid is not suitable for use on clothing. Ingredients are printed like a summary rather than a comprehensive list and include: anionic sufactants (15-30%) and non-ionic sufactants (less than 5%). A surfactant is something that helps break up the dirt in the water, removing it from the dishes and disspersing it into the water.
The concentrated liquid is labelled as having "anti-bacterial" qualities. To enable the antibacterial action you must use the liquid neat onto a dishcloth or sponge scourer after washing up. The product is also labelled as not being tested on animals, which is a good incentive to buy it.
I was a little put off by the gaudy bright blue colour of the liquid. It appears almost toxic in colour - not particularly something I fancied putting on my dishes. However, when I began using it I realised that the strong colour helps you to realise where and how much liquid you have distributed into your sponge or the water.
The liquid is quite thick and gloopy, although it is easy to dispense from the bottle and is neither too dense or too runny. I tend to wash per dish rather than fill a sink full of water and by this method I use approximately a flat 2p size drip of liquid per large plate. The liquid tends to froth up into a thick foam on your sponge though and once you get going you don't need to keep applying the liquid as much. I have used this liquid on easy to clean dishes and things like burnt stains on pans and can honestly say that it has worked on every challenge. On tougher stains you may need to steep dishes for a while but I generally find this is no more than I would have to do with a more expensive liquid.
I am dissapointed by the fragrance of the liquid. Being called 'daisy' I expected it to be a rather sweet and flowery aroma. Infact it is rather like a mild chemical mix.
I do not wear gloves when I wash up so I tend to judge washing up liquids on how they treat my skin. After using Daisy my hands feel normal, not withered and dry as some other detergents will leave them. I would say that I have used more expensive big name products such as 'Fairy' and these tend to leave hands feeling soft and moisturized! Overall though, the budget brand treatement is good enough for me!
My ultimate view of Daisy is that is a very good budget brand washing up liquid that easily competes with the more expensive brand names out there. My only concern would be the liquid's poor fragrance. Available at Tescos you can also save extra by using your Clubcard at the till.
