Daisy Thick Original Bleach
Advantages: Works well - Excellent value for money - Convenient packaging..
Disadvantages: None for me!
I was recently stocking up on some cleaning supplies during a trip to Tesco when I noticed their own-branded "Daisy" bottled bleach on sale for the brilliant sum of only 55 pence for the bottle. Thinking that this was an excellent value price, I duly purchased a bottle of the bleach and this review outlines my experiences of using the product.
The bottle is a generous 750ml in size, and I do think this offers excellent value for money, especially when I consider the amount of use that is easily obtained from a bottle of this size.
Produced in a robust plastic bottle that is a deep blue colour, the packaging is pretty standard for a product like this one in my experience. It is true to say that I am not particularly concerned about the appearance or image of cleaning products such as bleach, but the bottle is attractive enough I suppose, and certainly fit for purpose thanks to its sturdy material. There is a plastic lid on top of the bottle which has a sort of 'safety cap' in its design. This makes the bottle quite difficult to open at times, particularly if you have mobility problems or weakness in your hands, which I do. That said, I can appreciate how important it is to have a dangerous chemical like this one kept out of the reach of children, so I won't be deducting any points from the overall product rating, even though the safety cap doesn't really suit my own needs.
The bottle of Daisy Original Bleach has a convenient addition in its design, by way of an angled 'neck' and I find this very helpful when dispensing the bleach product around the inside of the toilet bowl. I have used many bleach products without this addition to their packaging and although they are not impossible to use, I do prefer the bottles with the angled shape as I find less waste is present when pouring the bleach from the bottle. Furthermore, I find I am able to maintain a steady grip on the bottle of Daisy Bleach and I don't recall it ever slipping or falling from my hands, even with limited mobility.
The bleach itself is rather runny although it is not overly thin so as to spill and drip everywhere when it is being used. Certainly the clear liquid is much thinner than my usual supermarket-branded bleach, but this aspect of the product by itself would never deter me from repurchasing it. In actual fact, I find the thin consistency of the bleach to be quite favourable as it certainly allows it to spread extremely easily, and thus the toilet bowl or sink is covered in a mere moment. Any help with cutting down the amount of time required to clean the bathroom is certainly welcome as far as I am concerned, so no marks off from me on this point.
The smell of the Daisy Original Bleach is very strong, being on a par with most other bleach products that I buy regularly. I find that the smell is rather unpleasant and it does linger in my bathroom after cleaning has ceased, as well as lingering on my hands if they have come into contact with the powerful substance if I have not worn rubber gloves whilst cleaning. The smell is very chemical-based and of course this is common practice with bleach products, in my experience. I didn't find that the Daisy Bleach was any stronger than my usual brand, and I wasn't aware of it catching in my throat whilst the product was being used.
In terms of effectiveness, I have found the Daisy Bleach works really well at cleaning my bathroom and it leaves my chrome taps shining and gleaming. I find too that it is effective when used on my tiles, in both the bathroom and the kitchen, and it removes grubby marks with ease, leaving them looking really clean and sparkling. I find too that this bleach works very well at removing lime scale and residue that has built up in the bath. To be quite honest I have been impressed with the effectiveness of the product each and every time I have used it around my home and have no complaints with its cleaning abilities whatsoever.
I like too that by using bleach around the home, I can be reassured that germs and bugs are taken care of and certainly the Daisy Bleach has performed just as well as other brands in this regard, killing germs more effectively than a basic 'everyday' cleaning product. I do like the reassurance offered by using bleach rather than a basic cleaning product, particularly in germ-filled areas such as the toilet bowl.
I find that the Daisy Bleach works very well at cleaning my bathroom, as well as my floors and tiles, especially when cleaning the tile grout at these areas. I have also used it on my kitchen worktops and have had no problems with using it on any of these assorted surfaces, so I think the product is a very versatile one, being suited to an assortment of household chores and is able to be used around the whole household.
Bleach is an irritant liquid of course, so I do usually try and wear rubber gloves when I am using the product otherwise the skin on my hands ends up becoming quite sore and irritated. This is due to the bleach being a highly toxic liquid and it is an issue I have with each and every brand of bleach I have ever purchased and so is not a flaw of this particular product. For this reason, I won't be deducting any marks from the overall product rating for the irritant effect it has on my skin.
Overall, I was really pleased with the performance of the Daisy Original Bleach and would definitely buy it again. I thought it worked just as well as more expensive brands that I buy regularly, whilst costing me less money and this is a winning combination in my book. I have nothing negative to report about the product at all, and will therefore be awarding it top marks in the product rating.
Daisy products are only available in Tesco, and the current price for the 750ml bottle of Daisy Original Bleach is only 55 pence, with the product being available in store as well as via the Tesco website at www.tesco.com. Info is correct as @ the time of writing (October 2012).
Summary: A great value bleach product from the Daisy brand..
