Advantages: Smell, very effective at many temps, little goes a long way

Disadvantages: Too expensive for me off offer

A few weeks back while shopping in Morrisons, I was doing my usual perusal of the cleaning aisles when I stumbled upon this Daz concentrated laundry liquid on special offer. At only £2 for 20 washes this was outshining value brands and I had to buy it! I bought the mandarin and lime splash variety, but there were a couple of others in the offer too.

The volume of the bottle is a rather random 918ml. I guess this has been measured out to give a certain number of washes and potentially avoid having a silly little bit left that is no good to man nor beast. The bottle is bright green plastic with very delicious looking lime and mandarin orange slices dotted around it. Although the bottle is solid coloured you can see how much you have left as there is a handy semi transparent strip down one side. I do like this as you can see at a glance when you need to buy more.

The cap screws on and off, and doubles as a measuring cup; we are told that one cap should equal one wash. This only applies to normal light soiling in medium and soft water areas though. In hard water areas and for large loads or heavy soiling it is recommended you use 1.5 caps. It can also be used to handwash with the stated dosage being 44ml in 10 litres of water. So the 20 washes is based on normal soiling in soft-medium water. Although this of course depends on if you fastidiously measure it out - I never used to but have to say I do now. Especially the first time I use something new as I like to see if it delivers based on the directions.

This liquid it suitable for use at a range of temperatures from 20C up to 95C. It is not suitable for wool or silk and you are recommended not to prewash. I must say though, I have used it more than once on a big handmade crochet throw (thanks granny!) that I use on the sofa, and it's caused no problems at all. This is a biological liquid so it does contain enzymes and it also contains optical brighteners and perfumes, so those with sensitivities should exercise caution.

The liquid itself is fabulously bright green! It is quite thick but pours easily and I have no trouble dispensing the desired volume into my wash ball (it can be used in the drawer as well). The smell is utterly divine and unlike most laundry liquids I have thus far encountered, even when I take a deep hard sniff of the undiluted product I can not smell that chemical undertone that lies beneath the fragrance. I personally can smell the mandarin more than the lime I think, but the overall smell is just clean, fresh and fruity though not particularly citrusy. I do find it almost impossible to pick the individual scents out in most fragrances though.

Yes, so how does it clean? Well, the answer is beautifully! I have only ever used the stated dose (and not added conditioner) and you really don't need more, it would only be wasteful. I have never had to wash anything twice and my clothes come out the machine smelling amazing and feeling very soft. I hang a lot of stuff up in the bedroom to dry and the whole upstairs of the house smells like this liquid. I can smell it from the bottom of the stairs, which is handy as the front door is there so visitors get a whiff too. I do tend to save this liquid for stuff I am not tumble drying, as any scent does tend to disappear a bit after doing this. I especially love to get into my freshly changed bed and fall asleep with this scent filling my nostrils. I would say though that it is not strong enough to interfere with perfume or aftershave, just enough to leave clothes smelling fresh and clean until they are next worn.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this. It is just gorgeous. Unfortunately, the usual price is the best part of £4 (£3.60 or £3.70 I think) and I simply can't reconcile spending this much to wash my clothes, even if it does go a fairly long way. If I had used this for every wash I had done it would have lasted a little more than a week but not as much as two weeks, so I would need to buy it every week to ensure I never ran out. So due to the price alone I am unlikely to buy it again. Of course, if it's on offer then it will go in my trolley quick-smart!

Summary: 4/5, it's just gorgeous but it's too expensive!
