Advantages: No scrubbing involved
Disadvantages: None
Every now and then a product comes along that actually does what it promises to do - unlike Cillit bang in my opinion! Dettol Mould and Mildew remover is one of these products that really does work.
I first bought this a couple of years back when after spending ages scrubbing small mould marks from my bathroom using various products, I came across this on the supermarket shelves, and bought a bottle. I was so impressed, I have continued to buy it ever since.
The price varies as it is sometimes on offer, but I have just paid £2.79 in Morrisons for a large 750ml bottle. I have bought 500ml bottles for under £2.00 previously, but not sure if they are still making these as only the large bottle was on the shelf and it states 'Bigger pack, better value' on the front of the bottle.
Dettol Mould & Mildew Remover comes in a plastic bottle and operates by a spray trigger, which is handy.
What I like most about this product, apart from the fact it actually does remove mould and mildew, is that there is no need to scrub - simply spray it on and leave it a while before rinsing it off.
As soon as I spray this onto mould or mildew, even in awkward corners, or on the grout between the tiles in my bathroom or the sealant, you can see the marks begin to disappear immediately!
Beware the product does contain active bleach though, which you can smell and is quite strong, so make sure the room is ventilated.
Dettol claim this product also kills 99.9% of bacteria and viruses. I'm not sure what the other 0.1% is what it may not kill, but I suppose the claim of 99.9% is just to cover themselves!
According to the info on the back of the bottle, it is suitable for use on chrome, stainless steel, glazed ceramic tiles, white grouting, formica & plastics, acrylic bath tubs and showers, ceramic basins and toilets.
I have safely used it on my bath, sink, toilet, and tiles and love the results. The grout between my bathroom tiles becomes gleaming white, and those small mould marks or brownish reds marks which seem to appear just disappear after this product is sprayed on.
I have also used it on window frames, again with great results.
It states on the bottle that it is specially formulated with a powerful bleach to easily remove even ingrained mould and mildew. I find this statement very accurate as it has worked on every spot of mould I have sprayed it on to.
The product is not suitable for hot or damages surfaces, coloured grouting, wood, painted surfaces, textiles, metal (except chrome & stainless steel) and unglazed tiles.
You are advised to wear protective gloves when using the product and spray from 20 - 25cm. I have to admit I don't wear gloves when I am using this in my bathroom as I spray it on, then use the shower head to rinse it off after a couple of minutes, so it does not actually come into contact with my skin. I have however, used gloves when using this on the sink as the shower doesn't reach that far to rinse it!
I use this product once a week in my bathroom, and this is enough to keep it free from mould. I only have a small bathroom and the shower and bath is used a few times each day in our house, so if left untreated it's not long before small mould marks in the corners and on the grout begin to appear.
It only takes a few minutes each week to spray and rinse, so no hard work or effort required at all! If only all cleaning jobs were this easy!
I can highly recommend this product for both results and ease of use. No more scrubbing for me!
Summary: Easy to use product which really works.
